PC BOARD COATING

I have a control board with some kind of clear coating.  Looks similar to clear epoxy.  Looking for suggestions how to remove so I can measure various components.  Coating is not on the back of board but does prevent taking measurements on top of board. Picture link

Hi Lance, welcome to the forum!

That is likely some sort of conformal coating, not sure what though. Perhaps this will help:

I've removed stuff like that with a Xacto knife before, but there is probably a better way!

MG Chemicals - 8310-55ML 8310A Conformal Coating Stripper appears to be a viable option.  Have some ordered and will see how it goes.  The coating does look like a varnish.  Chips off and looks a bit amber reminding of shellac.
