Sorry again for your mother...

her knee giving out caused today's fall

My grandmother falls also a couple of weeks ago and injured in the forehead as well. Now she is better, at the countryside where she can walk in the garden.

The reason is that the elderly needs to use the muscles from legs, in order to maintain them. Keep them in house doesn't help them on this end.Β

On another related issue, I got the idea today that I could start doing the videos with a mask on. I had to wear one all day at the hospital, of course, and it seemed to cover most of my injury. In fact, when I put it on, Mom said, "You should just do your videos with a mask."

that's a clever idea ! πŸ™‚

it's kinda sad that you can't shoot your way out with some electronics projects. Something like:
1) Slipery project - when a humidity sensor exceeds a threshold make the speed of the fan from bathroom to increase in speed, and maybe heat up the floor (I am not so good at thermodynamics) to dry the floor

2) monitor project - when a voice sensorΒ  exceeds a threshold in a room automatically call through an API the 911 / urgent number, or the same thing if the camera from bathroom detects a faster movement (when you fall, you fall faster than eg. walking)Β

3) weather project - if today will most probably rain, then send you an alert through a buzzer "Bill, don't forget the umbrella!"

Take good courage ! I bet you are not the only one, with the mother fall. It could happen to anyone.

@cristishor201 Thanks, some very interesting ideas here.Β

At the beginning of the week, she had no issue whatsoever with her knee. On Tuesday, it happened once, and on Thursday, it is what caused her to fall and cut her head.Β  After the fall, it constantly goes out, so she needs to be supported all the time. It was X-rayed, but there is no break, probably osteoarthritis.

The knee brace arrived yesterday, and it is helping, but it's not a cure. I'm using the RICE method with her: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. It seems to have some effect.

Essentially, I now live in fear of her falling again, so I'm pretty stressed unless she is sitting down (which she is right now).Β

I'm glad you like it. I'm going to try to finish the video that has been half-finished for three weeks now. I just need to film the demos. Up until today, my lip has been too swollen to speak properly, but it is reduced enough today that I no longer sound like Elmer Fudd! I probably won't have it out tomorrow, but by the beginning of the week, it should be ready.

😎

It is a catch 22 in that stress introduced by weight supporting (standing walking) triggers bone and muscle growth at any age. Not moving causes them to waste away. A serious problem for Astronauts spending a long time floating about in orbit.

My Mother and her Mother both died not long after falling (both 80yrs old) and breaking their hips.

I see online there are expensive air bags that react to a fall (as they do in a car crash) to protect the head and hips.

Best wishes for your own recovery.

Folks, things have taken a turn for the worst with my Mother; she may have internal brain bleeding. We are going to the hospital right now.

This is freaking me out, as it is almost the exact same scenario that occurred seven years ago with my late father.

Suffice it to say there may not be another video for a while.

@dronebot-workshop Forget the videos Bill, be there for your Mom. My Mom was hit by a car and had internal bleeding. It did not end well. I am sending you all the best wishes I have.

Take all the time you need Bill, your Mum's the highest priority for you right now.

However, don't forget to get your proper rest and nutrition as well, you'll need all your strength.

Bill,

As both Will and Ron have said, forget about the videos! Your Mom (and your health and well-being) are your priorities now.

We'll all be here when you are ready to continue.

Wishing you and your Mom all the best for a speedy recovery.

Mom is fine!!!!!Β  😀 😀 😀 😊 🍾 👍Β

Just got back from spending 10 hours in Emergency. They gave her a CT scan, and everything is OK. She does have internal bleeding, but it isn't from her brain; it's residual blood from the injury, and it isn't abnormal. It took 48 hours for it to appear, which is what caused so much concern.

It was scary, though. I went up to have a shower and checked on her, and she was fine. When I came down, she looked like she had been through a fight, with dark red crow's feet around both her eyes. We Googled it on several sources, and they all said we should immediately get it checked out, as it could be brain bleeding. And as that was exactly what happened to my father seven years ago, it was really scaring me.

It was an ordeal (3 hours to get the prognosis after the CT Scan; we thought they had forgotten us), but we are both glad we did it, and it has a happy ending.

Thank you all for your words of support; much appreciated.Β

@zander Ron, you mentioned that bad things come in threes. I really hope that this was number three. As I said on the YouTube Community thread, we are starting to feel like the Wheelers from Night Court this week!

Wow, Bill,

I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through. You have been a Godsend to many people all over the world and for all age groups; I am 66 years old and I find so much great information that you've shared. I just recently have been able to get limited access to the Internet as I have taken a job in Guam on a supply vessel for the next 3 or 4 months. (no more trucking in New England).Β

PLease, take care of yourself and your family. I am thinking about you.Β

@scsiraidguruΒ

From what Bill has told me, both he and his mom are doing well and on the road to recovery.
