LOL, so I take it that I don't need to play "man in the middle" here?

I can now go back into the workshop and fiddle with a large pile of parts on a big solderless breadboard.  I've been doing that for most of the day, that is when I wasn't out shoveling snow - you thoughtful Americans sent that nasty snow & ice storm up here yesterday and now my previously clean sidewalk and car are buried in icky white stuff.

BTW, the solderless breadboard has a couple of ATMega328's and a pile of other parts on it, I'm prototyping a motor controller design for a little robot I call DB1.  Just in case anyone is interested in how I spent the last day of 2019!

? ?

Bill

Welcome to the forum Teddy!

I've got a 1930s tube radio sitting here a friend asked me to try and refurbish.  I've had it way too long, but with all this new electronics to play with I just keep putting it off.  With a little research I found it sold for $69.95 back in the 30s.  That was a fortune back then.  Now you can get a 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 for around that and you have a full blown SBC (once you add the monitor, keyboard, & mouse that you might just have laying around).

I own a number of Pi's.  As for the Pi 4, I'm waiting until they fix an issue with USB 3.0 USB-C.  They tied lines C1 & C2 together. NOT GOOD!  Some software and some cables will CRASH the Pi.  Their QC move have not caught the problem.  So I'm waiting for an upgrade to Pi 4 before I'll buy one.  ALSO, just sitting idle, the Pi 4 is running WAAAAY to HOT!!

Oh, BTW, I have been using Linux since 2001 as an engineer.  I have lots of Alias' and Functions I've create that anyone may request a copy, and I'll send it via email.

Motor Code! Motor Code!
I lust with indignation!
My robot needs some motor code
with smooth acceleration

I'm hanging by a thread
on a frayed and fragile rope
hoping that some motor code
is in my horoscope

My robot's kind of jerky
it can stop and it can go
but without acceleration
it has no arpeggio

It's like a banjo plucking
single notes across a scale
never truly singing
like a cyber nightingale

So get that code a writt'in
and post it in a thread
so my robots aren't a walk'in
like a zombie that is dead.

I'm determined to get DB1 moving before my very favorite holiday of the whole year - Groundhog Day!

That's only 33 days away, so I better get cracking!

Happy New Year Robo-Pi!

Hi Bill. Thanks for setting me straight. Yes! Send him my info.

I copied your email address before Steve erased it and I've already sent you an email to the email address you had posted.   I also sent you a PM but you won't be able to see that until you make two more posts.

May I know do PM's?

I have an old tube type frequency generator. I dug it out of the attic this spring. After taking the cover off and blowing it out with a blast of air I put on a pair of goggles on and plugged it in. I was kind of expecting that red cardboard capacitor to blow up in my face. But it held up. All the tubes lit up and the power light bulbs came on. I checked it with an oscilloscope and it was putting out signals that I could adjust. I didn't really do much more than this with it.

Freq Gen (2)

Here's photo of the bottom of it.

Freq Gen (3)

This was a kit I had built myself a gazillion years ago when I was first learning electronics. I was thinking of cleaning it up and replacing some capacitors as you do. I kind of like it. It brings back childhood memories. ?

It has an amazing range. Look at all the adjustable coils. I can still remember calibrating the thing. It even has a crystal socket on the front panel for calibration.

Here's a picture of the front view:

Signal Generator (3)

It also supposedly does TV Marker and Bars. I don't recall ever using it for that though. And on the lower right corner it as an input that allows you to modulate the generated signal using an external modulation signal. It's pretty nifty little thingy.

Is this the type of equipment you're looking for? As I say, it appears to still be working. But the case is pretty beat up and rusty. I sprayed all the selector switches with tuner cleaner too before turning it on. Then I ran them through all their positions several times, and finally blew them all off with a blast of air.

I used to use this all the time on my electronic bench years ago. It was my goto generator. Audio or RF. Only sine waves, not triangle or square waves. Just a very basic AF RF generator. But I do remember using the external modulation feature on occasion too.

It's not very big about 1 foot wide, 8.5" tall and 5.25" deep. It weighs about 8.5 pounds.

It needs a lot of TLC. I hate to see it thrown in trash. If this is something you'd like to restore send me a PM with your address. I'd like to see it go to a good home. ? It was my childhood toy!

I have now sent the required Posts.  I'm just waiting on having the option to do PMs.  Then I'll send you my shipping address.

Ok Ted. I got your shipping address.  I'll be boxing this baby up for you fairly soon.  I'm cleaning out aquariums today though. ?

I'll need to find a suitable box to ship it in.  I'll also look around for any possible leads or manual.   I don't know where those might be  off hand so I'll need to root through some old electronics boxes and see if I can find them.

Be patient.  It will be shipped eventually. ?

But it might take  me a week to get my act together here.   This place is a mess.  I was planning on putting a new roof on my cottage this past summer but got side-tracked into repairing a wood boiler instead.  So I've got boxes all through the attic with stuff I was trying to remove so I can tear the roof off my house. ?

So boxes are piled on top of boxes everywhere.    So I don't know whether I'll be able to find the original manual or leads for this generator.  But I'll give it a shot.   So hang in there. I don't typically rush anything.  I'm 70 years old and it hurts to move. ?   So I hobble around like a sloth.

Just know that you'll get it eventually. ?

I got the RF generator all boxed up.  I haven't found the manual or leads for it yet.  If I ever run across them I can send them to you separately.

I was going to run this out to the post office and ship it.  But before I did I figured I better get an idea of what it will cost to ship.  So I went to USPS Calculate a Shipping Price first.   I came  up with a shipping cost of $38.58. ?

That's quite a bit more than I was expecting.  Do you still want it at that shipping cost?

If so, you can go to Click-N-Ship and fill in all the information there.  You'll need to set up an account there if you don't already have one. They will then give you a shipping label to print out.  You can then send that label to me and I'll stick it on the box and take it to the post office to be shipped.

Here are the shipping specs.

Weight: 9 pounds 1 ounce

Length: 15 inches

Height:  8 inches

Width: 10 inches.

Set the package value to $50.  That results in free insurance. ?

You'll need to send it "Priority Mail" as that's they don't give standard ground as an option.

When you get to the page: "Select type of Service" you'll need to click "Priority Mail (Choose your own box).  They don't have any standard boxes large enough.   At least I didn't see any.

At the bottom of the page you should see:

Insurance for package = Free

USPS tracking = Free

Don't ask for a signature.

The total shipping should be $38.95.

If you want it, send me the shipping label when you get it.   If you decide it's not worth the shipping prices that's fine too.   I didn't think it would cost that much to ship.    Unless you can come up with a less expensive way to ship it.

In the meantime I'll await the Click-N-Print label.   I can't afford $38.95 to ship this right now. ?

P.S.  Make sure you ship it to yourself, and not to me!

They do require that you include the "Ship From"  Zip Code at the top of the Click-N-Ship page.   That will be 16233  But you can leave your address as the return address.

Let me know what you decide.

I've been using the Raspberry Pi since 2013. I have roughly 120+ How-To's for the Pi.  Anyone interested can send me your email and I'll .RAR them up and send them Free!  Just email me.  Oh, I should mention that I've made changes to a number of them to work with release: Debian Buster.  If your a Linux Mint user, many of these will work as well.  I will also include: .bash_aliases that has 80 Alias' and 16 Functions.
