Yeah, I know it's not really a big deal.   But gee whiz, I'd expect even crappy bearings to last longer than that.

I'll never understand why companies do this to themselves.  They make a fairly nice printer for a decent  price than then ruin it by including something like totally trash bearings.   I mean, for crying out loud, anyone working at that company who has any inkling of a brain should be able to figure out that by using better bearings they will increase the reliability of a product tenfold and only add peanuts to the overall cost.

It just doesn't pay to cheap out on something that isn't going to add that much more to the overall cost.   All they do when they do that is create a bad reputation for themselves.

But whatever.   Get some good bearings in it and you'll end up with a pretty decent machine hopefully. ?

It's just an added headache for you that you wouldn't need to go through if the people working at the company had half a brain.   Those bearings must have been absolute garbage to wear out that quickly.

yeah i agree the worst part it they cheeped out on the cheapest part of of it i would gladly spend a dollar more on it to have good bearing but in a sick way im still glad. it helps me learn more about my machine

i feel if im not learning im dying.

but now im scared because i just saw a story how they brought back to life 10 hour dead pig brains...  some things should not be learned

Agreed.   Technologies are advancing so rapidly I'm actually happy to be 70 years old.   It give me comfort that I won't be seeing too much more silliness in my lifetime. ?

That is not how I read it when searching the internet to find what article you may be referring to.
They were apparently able to get some of the cells working again but not the brain itself.
Why are you scared? Understanding what it means to be alive would be amazing as it would also explain consciousness (what people really mean by "being alive") and hopefully the nature of personal identity. It would also indicate if an electronic machine was capable of "doing consciousness".

They were apparently able to get some of the cells working again but not the brain itself.

they also added neuro inhibitors to halt higher brain functions for ethical reasons as they were afraid of  them being Conscious. dead is dead and should stay that way. anything else is just bringing us closer to the singularity.

all hail are robot overlords or even cybernetic overlords

not to mention we are at the breaking point on are resources. we have over 7 billion people on this planet. if we even just extend life more then we have human existence will not be able to carry on.

What exactly do you fear?

That zombie pigs might attack you when you least expect it?

Or that someone might try to bring you back after you have been dead for a while and you'll end up being the zombie?

Wow! This thread sure went off the tracks. Building a 3D printer to zombie pigs. ?

You'd be surprised how much dust and stuff comes off the printer. You'd think that since it's melting the plastic that it wouldn't have a chance to turn to dust. But it comes from someplace, you can see it on the parts of the printer you don't touch, but, you can't see it on the rods

I've found that if I take a can of PB Blaster and spray it into a rag, then wipe down the rods with the rag that the bearings will not only last longer, sometimes you can even avoid buying new ones for another month or so

There's a little cylinder inside the bracket where the actual bearing pack is, and you can buy the bearing packs instead of buying new mounts which have the bearings inside them

You'll need a really small ring compressor tool and some patience to replace the bearing packs, but it's possible

PS DON'T spray stuff inside the bearing pack. Just wipe down the rods with PB Blaster (I tried WD40, it doesn't do anything helpful at all)

well its time to replace my bearings mine are grinding. what type did you go with did you go with the bushing or the  Linear metal bearing?

Sorry for the delay getting back to you!

Here is what I ordered from Amazon: Igus Drylin Bearings

You only need 7 of the 8. 4 on the Y-Axis and 3 on the X-Axis

If we had a way to PM, I have some extra ones I ordered if you'd like to try them.

I know this is a very stupid question, but how many hours did you spent building this 3D printer?

in all about 5 hours over about 3 days. there arent any great instructions on how to build it. one video that did show it step by step so that was nice i was pretty happy with the build time before this one i had never seen a 3d print in real life

From the feedback on the Amazon page you linked to, it doesn't sound like those have actual ball bearings inside them.

Do they have actual ball bearings inside them ?
