Starting on motors
Why does the second picture look like how we envisaged robots in the 1960s.
Reminds me of a "Dr. Who (1970) Cyberman after his skin has been removed". ? ? ?
I did want to stay 60's but with a modern twist quad duce ee my main bot China ?.I'll have some more photos as it comes together.
The motors that drive the wheels look like re-purposed electric window motors from a car. Or possibly windshield wiper motors. If so, I love it. ?

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not “Eureka!” (I found it!) but “That's funny …”

No they are new high power high torque. 50 rpm from maker motor .
In building a working medium sized robot it has always been an obstacle for me in acquiring reasonably priced geared wheeled motors.
The two I used on my first robot base many years ago were actually from a very old electric wheelchair. Unfortunately one motor eventually failed and that was the end of that. They were powerful enough to carry a human and push a large couch around the lounge. It is important the weight is carried by bearings separate from the motor shaft. The nice thing about the motors was how silent they were. Only one worm gear from the motor and a "plastic" gear on the wheel shaft.
Now I have a smaller robotic base using very noisy glued on iRobot motors.
The plastic gears are quiet looks cool with laptop on board looks like it might have room for a couple more ?
I'm going to have the gear system for duce up in a day or so but it won't be gear or chain or clutch not even direct drive but it will be silent .
