Is it possible to replace the mechanical potentiometer with a digipot such as the mcp41100?  Are there electrical issues I need to be aware of BEFORE I try to hook one up to my Arduino?  The motor controller is this one: Motor Controller

I would also like to control the direction switch.

Hi @mscientist33, I found this info on the web for you, this should give you some Idea of how a digipot works vs a mechanical potentiometer: https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/application-notes/AN-1121.pdf

I also found this exchange about the same problem your apparently having, so I hope this helps you figure it out: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/199653/replace-mechanical-pot-with-digital

good luck, and keeps us posted on what you come away with..
