Hello from way upstate New York on over 100 acres of mostly forest. Re-fired, over-50 USAF vet, noodler, tinkerer, maker, Amateur Extra. Just playing around, putting things together to see if any magic smoke comes out. Building tracked bot about the size of a breadbox, powered by drill batteries to keep size and weight down as development platform for hoverhaul-based platform.

Welcome to the forum!! As you’ll soon find, there are many members on here with varying levels of expertise in both the hardware and software side of things. I’m sure any of them would be happy to help you, if you have questions or problems.  So… ask away (in the appropriate section of the forums). Also, let us know how your projects are coming along.

Me… I’m a retired Navy vet who worked in the newspaper publishing industry for 25 yrs after serving with Uncle Sam’s yacht club. I was mostly involved in network design and analysis.

Currently, I’ve been playing with RPi Pico’s and the new Arduino Uno R4. (No magic smoke yet!).

Take care,

Lee

@barkeater

Amateur Extra, care to share your call sign? Mine is N4TTY also Amateur Extra. Also USAF vet from 1966-1970.  Call sign may give away my job in the USAF.

@barkeaterj You might want to look into the batteries the RC boys use, much lighter, more power but you will need a suitable charger, I have a SKYRC. They start at under $100 on Banggood.com https://bityl.co/O0q6

Here is the link of a re-seller (I bought mine direct from China) https://bityl.co/O0q9

The batteries I am talking about are like the following https://amz.run/8HRt

Lots of different voltages (as long as it's a multiple of 3.7) and capacity. Don't forget the fireproof bags.

First computer 1959. Retired from my own computer company 2004.
Hardware - Expert in 1401, and 360, fairly knowledge in PC plus numerous MPU's and MCU's
Major Languages - Machine language, 360 Macro Assembler, Intel Assembler, PL/I and PL1, Pascal, Basic, C plus numerous job control and scripting languages.
Sure you can learn to be a programmer, it will take the same amount of time for me to learn to be a Doctor.
