@codecage

I have the A8

The new A8+ looks like a total retool, upgraded power supply, control panel, frame, build volume. Doesn't say anything about the controller board

This description from Amazon:

Upgraded mainboard: Added designs of over-current protection and short-circuit protection, with smaller current configuration, and it is safe and reliable.

The mainboard is what I was referring to as the controller board.

 Ship of Theseus.

Had to look that one up.

In the metaphysics of identity, the ship of Theseus is a thought experiment that raises the question of whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.

Always learning something new here. ?

I started with an A8 that likely would have been decent enough for my use but shortly got a great bargain on a anycubic kossel delta.

The A8 would print decently at a resolution below 2.o but the delta has printed at 1.2 satisfactorily.

It was basically the printers that brought me here wanting to motorize project and run some simple robots.

For me the printers couldn't have made for a happier retirement as I was searching for a hobby I hadn't already burnt out on. That included a car restoration, several motorcycle restorations, wood working, and repairing pin ball machines. I have a 300 sq ft heated and air conditioned shop in the back yard that serves only as a storage shed at the moment.

I really need to clean and organize things out there and move the electronics and 3d printing stuff out of the living room. I'm basically drowning in past and present hobbies.

Purchased a MonoPrice Mini Delta last December 2018 and had a steep learning curve to follow. After I finally switched to PLA from ABS success went to 99%! It has a smaller base to work from, but the small investment in the machine and the great knowledge I've gained is well worth the step. So if you can get a good deal on one, (<$150) I would recommend as first time 3D, and then if you are impressed, move onto a larger unit.

Good Printing!

Yea, ABS is something I only use when I absolutely have to, and even then, I plan on it failing at least 50% of the time

The best odds I've had with ABS is when I crank up the heat on the heated bed to about 80C or more

So, doing some more youtubing (new verb?) in between work.

Question: lead screw verse threaded rod.

What is everyone using? Is the added expense of lead screw worth it?

Only you can answer that.

A few months ago I spent a lot of money and 2 days swapping out my rods for rails and bearings just so I could install a bowden extruder only to find that my printer couldn't handle the bowden, so I ended up putting it back

My printer printed fine, I just wanted better, but better didn't turn out to be better

Does your z axis tend to wobble ?

If the upgrade doesn't upgrade then you don't need it

You would want an SLA printer for that to get anything close to good results.

Justify getting a 3D printer. Other than electronic experimenting what do you use yours for?
