I'd like to have a large 22" HDMI monitor BUT, with a Laptop (which I have), I cannot see how I could easily WORK with it...  LapTop open (screen opened up & sticking UP) exposing the KB, which I need to use, and here is this BIG monitor sitting where?  Behind the LapTop screen blocking the HDMI?  NOT...  I don't see how I could make it work...  I don't want the big screen off to the side.  I don't know if I could close the LapTop lid enough to use the KB & see over it to the big screen...  (possible, I suppose...  BUT...)

The way I would do it is just set the laptop off to the side.  Use a separate keyboard and just set up the keyboard and large monitor where you want them.  Let the laptop screen be the secondary screen off to the side.

I want to look into that too.  Can I just plug this HDMI monitor into my laptops as a second display?  I haven't looked yet to see if they have an  HDMI connector on them or how that works.   But I'll most likely soon find out. ? 

Separate KB?    Wireless USB?   I didn't think that would work... never thought of it.

I am using a wireless mouse & love it...  What kind of KBs would work good wirelessly to laptop?   Still able Select, COPY, Paste as usual?

Would my laptop, Lenovo,   continue to operate with the cover CLOSED?  Some of them auto turn off when cover is closed...  If so, would have to have small blocks to rest on for the cover... just enough to let run. 🙂

YES!!   I have run a HDMI cable from LapTop to BIG Sony HDMI TV...  works like a charm...  BUT, you have the Cable going across the room!  Unplugged it...   Just plug the HDMI cable in & run it to your Monitor...  simple...  🙂

That can depend on the machine.  Most have setting you can change to tell it what to do when the cover is close.   Some of them offer the option to do nothing in which case you could close the cover and the machine would continue to run.   Other's may have a hardwired switch that shuts down the computer and there is no option to change it.  You need to look through your settings to find out what your computer has to offer.

Yes they have wireless keyboards that behave just like any other keyboard.   You can also use one that has a wired USB connection.  Either way it should work as normal.

I've got 3 of those things. I got them from Best Buy. Logitech brand, only about $21usd each. I used to have 2 in the lab and one in my bedroom, but, since I've been doing more computer work than labwork, I've got 2 upstairs and one downstairs. They're extremely handy. Works on all my pi/nano/atomic on the first try. Just plug the usb dongle thingy in, and you can even swap them over from computer to computer while they're running (I did have to put a drop of paint on each set tho, so I'd know which keyboard and mouse matched to which dongle. That could be a handy tip)

Yea. Hair gel of some sort. Never did understand it. Washing your hair then adding a bunch of gook to it just to make it greasy again

I think it was Wild Root Cream Oil with Lanolin...

If it wasn't that, it was something else on the tip of my tongue...

"Brill Cream"!!  That was it...  "Brill Cream...  Just a little dab will do you..."

My favorite was really "Wild Root Cream Oil...  Charlie..."  good stuff!  🙂

Does anyone else remember this stuff?   The GOOD stuff before the Dry Look came about.  🙂

Now days, I don't even use hair spray anymore...  Nothing...  Nothing at all!  🙂

I suspect that the Nano uses the HDMI port for the sound like many other computers do. Check that monitor your purchased (and congratulations for buying it BTW) and see if it has an audio output jack, some of my monitors have an audio or headphone jack. You can use that to plug into your sound system.

I finally checked this.  Unfortunately there is no sound jack on the monitor.   But I do have a USB sound mixer that I might be able to use.

Tonight I was trying the Jetson Nano with its big screen with Fusion 360.  I have to run it over the web using Chrome.   I've heard that Fusion 360 is supposed to run faster this way since all the hard graphics calculations are actually being done on the server on the web.   But unfortunately it doesn't appear to  be all that fast.  In fact, it's extremely slow so far with major delays between clicking on something and having it actually draw.  That's no fun.   So right now it doesn't look like I'll be able to use the Jetson Nano for  running Fusion 360.

I think I'm going to have to go back to using Google Sketchup.   It's not at nice as Fusion but at least it runs without any delays.

Are you sure you have an HDMI cable that supports audio?

While trying to run Fusion360... are you lacking memory?  Other windows grabbing memory?  Knock down as many jobs running as possible...  Restart, to get a fresh start at it...  Can you expand your memory?  Just grabbing at straws...  🙂

Ya know, since I've been using this thing for ROS it never occurred to me to check the sound, so, I just did...

And I had none. But I knew that couldn't be possible, so I poked around, and there's a little speaker icon on the top bar next to the clock, so I figured I had nothing to lose by clicking on it, which I promptly did, only to be told that the speaker volume was set to 100%, at which point you would think it would be making some kind of sound...

But it didn't. Then, if you look under the speaker volume thingy, you'll see it says "sound settings", click on that, and mine was set to "built in audio", but there was another option above it labeled "hdmi/display port", so I clicked on that, and now my sound works

You obviously didn't load the same version of nvidia ubuntu that I did, but, see if you have something similar, it might help

Oh, and the "test sound" button doesn't work like you think it does

Apparently I'm running the "Bionic Beaver". ? 

NAME = Ubuntu

VERSION = 18.04.2 LTS (Bionic Beaver)

I checked out the auto options.   It has Anlalog Stereo Output listed as "Built-in Audio".  But this is probably a left over from Ubuntu intended for machines that have built-in audio.   The Jetson Nano doesn't have any built-in audio that I am aware of.   But to be honest I didn't really look into that too deeply.

The other option is the HDMI DisplayPort.   Also listed as "Built-in Audio".  That's  probably working except the cheap HDMI display I bought doesn't have any audio capabilities.   So that's why I'm not getting any sound that way either.

I  have an small 4-channel Behringer mixer with a USB adapter.   If I plug this into the Jetson Nano Linux will probably recognize it and it should show up as an audio output option.  I don't have time to try that right now, but I'll let you know how that goes when I get a round tuit.

Kdenlive is Dead!

I saw that Chris had Kdenlive installed on a Jetson Nano in one of his review videos and said that it actually ran pretty well on the nano.    So I thought I'd give it a shot.

sudo apt-get install kdenlive

Says it's all installed.

When I look in the Software App it shows up as having been installed.   But when I click on it to run it it does NOTHING at all.   Zip, zilch, nada.

Dag blast it!  I wanted to try Kdenlive and see if I can run it on the Jetson Nano.   But  it won't  run.  I even tried a reboot but still no go. 

Poop!

I just tried to reinstall Kdenlive but the Nano says,

"Sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.  Kdenlive is already installed in the newest version"

OK, you've finally nailed it down that the Monitor does NOT have any sound at all; right?

I forgot... are you trying to connect your laptop to the monitor OR your Jetson?

Try connecting your laptop HDMI to another TV...  see if it works.  (it will probably work).

If you have an HDMI output port on another TV, try connecting the TV HDMI to the monitor;  I don't think it will work...  Monitor has no audio in it...  🙁

Plug your Jetson HDMI into another TV, with a HDMI port...  If it does NOT work, Jetson has no audio!  If that works, buy another TV Monitor (with sound), and use it.   OR use the TV for the monitor.  🙂

If you have an earphone/audio jack in the Jetson, plug it into some good speakers and use them!

There must be a way...  right?

I already have a really nice sound system on the notebook computer.  In fact, it's an entire recording studio with 8 stereo channel inputs as well as the stereo output.  In fact, I could probably just temporarily unplug that from  the notebook and plug it into the Jetson Nano.  That should work for instant sound.  I might try that tonight.   If that works then I know that I can use the smaller mixer I have as well.

If I had a TV with an HDMI port I would have used that from the get go instead of buying a whole new HDIM monitor.   I'm not big into watching TV.   My current TV is an antique, plus I only use it for DVDs.  Usually instructional videos and physics lectures, etc.   I don't have cable TV.   The only exposure I get to any TV is what I watch on YouTube.

There is no audio output jack on the Jetson Nano that I am aware of. You need to use either the HDMI port or a USB port.

I feel confident that my old Behringer mixer will work well for the Nano.   At least it should.   After all the Nano is running Linux and  the Linux OS should be capable of recognizing my Behringer mixer on a USB port.  So I'm sure I'll have sound before too long.   I can only really work on this stuff at night.  I gotta run back outside and take advantage of the SUNSHINE!   Lots of outdoor work to do before winter sets in!
