Hello,

I’m now retired from 40 years of USN Satcom systems engineering support, and am now hoping to get my grandkids interested in helping me do something with the 30 boxes of Arduino parts and DIY kits I’ve accumulated in the garage, and not look like an idiot as I try to program this stuff.. I’ve been very interested in learning to code, but find I’m not good at it, distracted and get frustrated when the smallest detail or oversight makes this stuff fail to work.

I also love to fly RC Slope gliders, sail 1meter yachts, do YT videos, take a ton of photos and watch a buttload of YouTube vids on 40 different topics.   I 1st ran across Bill’s channel a year or so ago and find he’s very organized, thorough and puts out completely understandable content.. so I’m now here .

some areas of current interest are .. ESP 32 Cam projects, Makeblock MBot Mega robot car mods, Arduino programming structure and integrating new code into existing Arduino AVR systems. I have some experience with reprogramming the 4-in-1 DIY modules made by numerous RC vendors too. I’m looking forward to using this form and getting to know you..

thanks, JimS

@jims123

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, programming is very picky work for a "boss" who requires unbelievably high levels of accuracy to be happy 🙂

But, if you start with small sketches and test your circuits by adding one component at a time and debugging that until everything works again and then on with the next component, you'll soon become both more confidant and more proficient at coding.

Anything seems possible when you don't know what you're talking about.

Will,

I’m sure you’re right.. one thing I’ve noticed is that if I don’t take the time to actually sit down and code it, over and over again.. and then install and run it, and debug it.. . all that I pick up while watching these videos seems to simply evaporate.
