Hi Everyone! I am a retired mechanical engineer who worked primarily in the Aerospace and Defense industry for 40+ years. My main area of specialization was composite structures, but I did a lot of code development generating tools for the design and analysis of those structures. I program mainly in C++ but have done a smattering of Python and still consider myself fluent in FORTRAN (for all you old-timers who remember FORTRAN).
I was very interested in electronics early in my career and dabbled with some of the early microprocessors like the 6502. I have been away from electronics for decades, but have started to get back into it in my retirement. So I have been dabbling primarily with the Arduino and ESP32 microcontrollers for a couple of years now. Most of my projects are focused on automating repetitive tasks in my shop. I have a basement shop that serves as a metal, woodworking, and now electronics shop (and yes, keeping the sawdust and metal chips out of the electronics and machines is a constant battle).
I have been watching the Dronebot Workshop videos for quite a while now, and this forum seems to be one of the more useful (and civilized) ones on the internet. I have had a self imposed moratorium on social media and forums, but decided to break my rule for this one. I look forward to participating and getting to know some of you.
Best regards,
BabaG
Welcome @BabaG - it sounds like you'll fit right in! Glad you've made an exception.
FORTRAN... I had to do a couple projects in it back in the 80s, but I never found the language to be to my taste. Cool that you've still go chops in it. (A C# compiler for microcontrollers is my vain hope, lol)
... I'm interested to see what you're working on.
