Hi, I'm Ace a photographer from the UK, working my 49th career year. Currently, training and portfolio building for young models. Previous work more relevant to here, included PR photographer to Dell Computers UK and the UK magazine "Amateur Radio".

Became a licencesed radio ham in 1983 but work/career caused a long hiatus. I'm back now and eager to learn! My main interest is RF projects and a lot of those include microcontrollers, hence my being here.

I've been watching Bill's excellent videos for a while and I'm glad to be accepted here.

WelcomeΒ  to the forum @ace !

Indeed, there are quite a lot of us "old guys" on this forum, and many with expertise in the many facets of electrical/electronics, as well as programming of MCU.Β  I'm a retired Electrical/Instrumentation technician with over 49 years of industrial process control and automation experience.. I find a t 75 yrs/old , your never to old to learn new things. My preference is automation and robotics..I just built my first one, a Robot tank that can follow a light, has object avoidance, IRC ( INFRARED Remote control)Β  and blue-tooth control over my iPhone.. Next project is to hook up an AI camera that has object recognition so I can get the robot to find objects.. ( I lose my keys all the time)..lol

Have fun, and be safe!

kind regards,

LouisR

Hi Louis,
Thanks very much for the warm welcome! It looks like your career experience has come in useful for your hobby; that is am impressive tank! Thanks for sharing the pic. I hope the development goes well and will follow your progress.

I don't have the benefit of an electronic or engineering background so my projects will be a lot more modest. One I would like to achieve is a lightweight antenna rotor or rotator as we call them in England. I'm hoping that will be quite a simple stepper motor exercise.

Best regards to you and yours,
Ace

Welcome Ace - I've done a bit of photography stuff but the revenue was not "break even" lol - so I tip my hat. I have been thinking of building an arduino rig to do PTZ on a slide for event videography using autonomous facial tracking - but it's back in the queue for now.

I'm a fellow geriatric sort. πŸ˜‰ Welcome.

Hi Biny,
Thanks for the welcome! You are correct regarding photography, it's not easy to make a living. It was alwaysΒ  competitive and the advent of digital turned everyone into a photographer. That said, there is a lot of bad work out there and if you are prepared to learn, raise your game and be flexible...you can stay in business.

I envy guys like you who can just knock an electronic gadget to perform some function. I'm feeling every step of the way but the essential thing for us both is to enjoy what we do. Your creations will blow the doors off my understanding but if I can build an Arduino control radio receiver, I will be happy to have made a good start.

Enjoy your hobby,
Ace

@ace Oh, don't overestimate my grace under fire, lol. I'm ok on software, but feeling rusty on the electronics and all thumbs on the mechanical / industrial side. One step at a time, eh?
