Are keyboard buttons considered momentary contact switches?

The Raspberry Pi Standby Switch project says "any normally open momentary contact pushbutton will work".  I happen to have a mechanical key switch from an old computer keyboard.  Are key switches considered the right kind of switch for this project?

Should work; keyboard keys are normally open momentary pushbuttons.

Anything seems possible when you don't know what you're talking about.
