The C++ Standard which has an ISO accreditation supports ASCII, which is 0-127 (7 bits).  What you refer to 8 bits ASCII is known as "Extended ASCII".

The C++ standard supports only true ASCII.

@frogandtoad Yes, you already told me that. I am very surprised by that though, isn't extended ascii used a lot, maybe there are C++ libraries that add that?

@frogandtoad It's been a while so my apologies for mis-speaking re ASCII. I am more than a little surprised though to hear that ISO C++ doesn't support it.

You can write extended ASCII in C++, it's just that the C++ ISO Standard does not support it, and that is what makes C++ so portable across different platforms, because it strictly adheres to standards!

@frogandtoad Ok, I wasn't sure if context was obvious or not. On this we can agree, this forum software is lacking a few functions I am accustomed too. I wonder why Bill chose this one. A files section and proper threading to my mind are crucial

Well, tell us (specifically ask Bill) of what you want, and maybe he can do it... he is a reasonable guy I'm sure 😉

@frogandtoad I am sure there are many other languages that do as well but I am totally out of touch with the language explosion today.

@frogandtoad Do you actually believe we don't know when you are being not helpful?

Given your age, I respect your views.

Thank you

@frogandtoad You aren't fooling anyone.

Fool me once... fool you twice? 😀

Have another coffee (or whatever else is in it), please!

@frogandtoad Since you brought it up first, I was going to be a gentleman and let you take the credit for any new features. Perhaps we can do something together but TBH, I only have those two suggestions, you sound like you have more ideas than me re forums. Mine are a files section, and proper threads so we don't have to constantly quote.

@frogandtoad There you go again.

Please add some context so I can at least defend myself as to what you are waffling on about!
I feel like I am communicating with Homer Simpsons father LOL

@frogandtoad Yes, I am too trusting. Going to get a coffee and yes I will add some Baileys as well.

@frogandtoad Sorry, I made that response before you told me I needed to quote them. I think you may be seeing my posts out of order.

@frogandtoad You mentioned my name and a grave in the same sentence. Carolinas actually, a lot cheaper than Baileys but most people know Baileys.

@frogandtoad Research is difficult for me, remember I am on the spectrum and learning new stuff is very tedious. Since I only have a few years left it seems like a waste of time for ME. I think I can say with confidence that I have not seen much OOP code in all the arduino code I have looked at.

Wow, so you have booked your date in the 6 foot ditch already?
In that case, can I send you my condolences now?

@frogandtoad OOPS forgot to quote. This sounds like a death threat to me, are you serious?

Wow!

So when you tell me and the group, that you have no time left to learn anything and that your days are numbered with very little time left... you do not understand the sarcastic feedback that goes with it eh?
