Hi Bill,

If this has been done before I apologize for posting again.

Maybe  a full on project, Hydroponics, Where we have master and slave modules. Digital I/O Analogue I/O. etc.

If you want more information required please let me know. I did a full project 488 sqm green house with Large fans with  VFD's etc and sprayers etc. But used a commercial electronic solution. Not what i really want. I want to have full autonomy of the electronics etc. But at the same time happy to the share the project with all.

This project does not have to be so big but can be small enough to place in your own garden and grow whatever you want.

Thanks

Take care.

Hi Xen and welcome to the forum!

I like the CAN Bus aspect of it, and I have been planning on doing a CAN Bus video/article. A project like that (on a small scale, of course) may make a good example.

I would like to hear more about your project.

😎

Bill

I am curious... is the Cam bus of significance to the desired goal of monitoring? I am interested in the goal of monitoring.  It seems (from my limited knowledge point of view) Cam bus would be a very heavyweight system of having to wire everything up and the larger the garden, the more problematic, especially with the wiring, corrosion, shovels, tillers needing to harden the conduits.  I would think a wireless solution using MQTT over WiFi or even a LoRa solution if distances exceed WiFi range would be a simpler, cheaper and a more robust solution.

@inq FYI, CAN not CAM. Its what is in cars etc, that OBD-II port under the dash is your gateway into your vehicles Controller Area Network bus.

@zander,

I don't want to be snippy, petty or be negative toward someone's ideas?  I learn something every day.  😋  I'm wondering if there was some advantage @master-x knows about that I don't.  The fact that @dronebot-workshop gave it a thumbs up, screamed at my ignorance.  I come by my Inquisitive moniker honestly... everything throws a flag.  I never got out of that phase, Why mommy, why daddy... why teacher...

VBR,

@inq Yes, CAN no such thing as CAM at least as far as Google knows about. I too would like to know why CAN. My suspicion is that is what he knows but a quick look at his linkedin profile does not support that at least as far as I can see, he looks like a Msft guy.

You know very well Dennis, I LIVE to spot your infrequent boo-boos.

Hey... I take exception to that. 🤣 😊 Being in Microsoft's camp for my entire second career paid for a great standard of living, raising a family and early retirement so I can goof-off with hobbies and haunt this forum.

@inq I know you were also a Msft guy, it was not meant to be anything but a fact.

@inq Hi, CanBus is one many communication protocols. This one in particular is used in the automotive industry. You could use Profibus and other protocols if you wish. I just mentioned CanBus as I would like to know how to use this efficiently. I don't believe to be be difficult. But why not learn something from others.

The interesting part is to have a master where you could slot in slaves that have different functions. Analog I/O, one for Digital IO etc.

You don't have to have wires all over the place, you could use Wifi now. There are many options.

The idea is to make the most efficient systems that works effortlessly and has minimal wiring and can be monitored over the internet and so on. But small bytes 😉 at a time. One could break this project into mini projects and later add them together to configure however you want it.

My 5 cents ...

@zander Hi, yes I am a Msft guy for many years. Also Linux, Info/Reality, and other OS's. It does not make me a Electronics guru, by no means. I have done a few non-degree courses in Micro embedded programming and mechatronics. I love electronics and been doing this since childhood.... analog then. I am humble to learn from anyone no matter what age. The whole point is to have fun and share knowledge and build something cool.

I am also learning to do machining with Lathes and milling machines and would like to incorporate electronics into these projects. But since I am working I don't have much time. But hey let's enjoy while we are learning. 😎
