Greetings, I'm today's new guy!

Been following the DroneBotWorkshop for a while and using many ideas and projects in my own home workshop. I have a backlog of projects relating to RPI, Arduino & derivatives, Jetson Nano, 3D printing, cloud, IoT and robotics.

Having been working from home exclusively since last March, I swivel my seat to my electronics lab which one could argue is related to my role as a leader in an IT company. No way I want my co-workers to have all the fun!

Looking forward to learning and sharing whatever knowledge I may have (which is not much right now). I'm in the Montreal area, so if you are local please share your secret places for supplies.

How do you like the Jetson Nano?  I have a Jetson TX2 that I have run YOLO and tensor flow on.

Nice to meet you!

@briang "backlog" is really a backlog...ie. it is sitting in my project drawer. I've moved it up 2 drawers to the top in the last 2 weeks which means it should get plugged in soon!

Thanks for the greeting 🙂

Really been 'drinking from the firehose' the last couple of days. Reading all your posts, reviewing projects, watching videos. My backlog grows, thanks to all of you. That what vacation confinement is for, right?

So far, on the list for next week (starting this afternoon) is a mixture of personal & professional projects!

- breadboard / development station is a bit small / cramped, so some re-arranging

- new network and KVM switches so I can make room for 2nd RPI and Jetson Nano on my desktop development/3D printing area (which has Dell T1700, RPI4-8GB and my robot arm)

- Jetson Nano 2GB development board installation and configuration. "Hello AI world" 🙂

- several Arduino, NodeMCU, esp32 ... projects. Often for me a project is defined as the educational portion (coding, electronics etc.) rather than pure use case driven. That said, ideas like remote monitoring of RV from @jfabernathy gave me ideas. I presently monitor temp and humidity near my 3D printer in the other room

- more coding of my robot arm (Arduino Braccio)

- PlatfomIO education, I'm not a coder and not nearly as smart as a 5th grader (and I know plenty that code)

- benchtop power supply (I have one in the cottage garage) with buck converters for specific voltages etc.

- Arduino motor control education, I'll use the tutorial from Bill in the workshop for that (purchased board & pots etc this week)

- if I get really motivated: Cloud practitioner training, MQTT (I use Cayenne today), home automation, Fusion 360, slicer exploration, containers, etc. ...  then I will realize I have run out of time

- when I realize how my setup is sub-optimal I'll go back to the workshop drawing board!

Really pleased to have the opportunity to do all of this with help from here. I have dated skills in CAD, robotics, NC programming, etc. Is this like riding a bike?

This post has been a bit cathartic. I'll try not to clog the forum with too many newbie questions!

😀

Interesting, from the very little I read, I thought the Jetson was for AI projects. I didn't realise it could be used for "tinkering".

Oh and welcome from Ottawa!

@yurkshirelad

Thanks! 🙂

I plan to use the Nano for simple AI, but it does have GPIO capability (same interface as RPI if I recall) but may not be best suited for that.

@yurkshirelad

The Jetson is like a RasPi just pumped up with SUPER steroids, hence its ability to handle AI.  Although its GPIO pins have very little current capability.

I see you have been watching some of Paul McWhorter's YouTube videos, so I'm sure you know he has an extensive series on using the Jetson Nano for AI purposes.

I haven't been through many of his videos, so I haven't found those yet.

@yurkshirelad

He is in the process of relocating to Africa, but hampered by the Covid pandemic, so he hasn't produced many tutorial videos lately.  Just his weekly Live Shop Talks.  On episode 27 of his Live Shop Talk, he rated his 5 top Technology YouTube sites.  The DroneBot Workshop was his number one pick!  He then did an interview with Bill on episode 28.  Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

So, this new guy just realized that playing catchup on threads after joining the Forum could result in thread resurrections!
