I'm rerired from 33 years practicing law after 18 years working as a machinist and mechanic.  I probably should have been an engineer--fixing things is in my blood.  From construction and remodeling to modifications to skis and bicycles to souping up computers to rebuilding machine tools to fixing appliances I've had more success than failure at getting things to work.  While I was soldering faster crystals onto PC motherboards before IBM got in the game, I have no electronics training and definitely misunderstand most of the fundamentals.  I get by by figuring out what I need to know to complete a particular project.  Even so I have assembled and repaired many hundreds of PCs in the past 40 years and still have two racks of servers in my garage.

After watching the YouTube video about building a linear power supply I had a few questions which led me to this forum.  Signing up took a few days and I have since forgotten the questions but they will come back.  I hope I'll be able to help others in exchange for the help I expect to find here.
