Hello All, introducing myself as a new member of the forum.
Like many of you I have been watching Bill's fabulous workshops for some time (on youtube under the same username), and wish to engage more with like-minded people.
I have a ham radio license and one of my projects so far was to take an old Codan crystal radio and add a Variable Frequency Oscillator front end that is controlled by an arduino. Basically the Adruino and VFO allowed the fixed frequency to be variable like normal radios. This was a project that I followed step by step and was largely over my head.
A more recent project is a dog barking device, basically clap on code that executes an alarm if the roomNoise > than a setThresholdValue. Introducing a rotary encoder that allowed the latter to be altered by the user was challenging. I was proud of this one as a solution was requested by my brother and I wrote this one from the ground up.
The next challenge is to build a Doc Brown RC for the Delorean. One that counts up on a seven-segment dual display when the controller (potentiometer) is pushed forward. Maybe even output some sound from the scene in the movie.
I hope to learn more from you all and also contribute whenever I can.
I look forward to eMeeting you all
Thanks Tibby 🙂
Hi Tibby
I'm also from new and from Brisbane, southside. looking forward to sharing whenever I can.
Cheers
Robert
Great to meet you Robert!
Hi Tibby
I am working on a vfo type project also. I have some commercial FM radios that are crystal controlled that I want to program for multiple channels using the VFO Si 5351 breakout board or the QRP Labs Progrock2 board. The Progrock2 will give 8 channels which is likely enough for a vintage radio. It can do all the frequency work, I'll just select the channel with the Nano. Plenty of CPU time to operate a display, pushbuttons, and CTCSS for the repeater access. Good times!

@bits2bots Duane,
Thanks so much for sharing your project, its been a while since I did that one 🙂
I got the doc Brown counter going, I just need a decent remote control to build the unit now.
My latest facination is the 7219 Matrix boards, I am enjoying the combination of wifi on the esp32 and pushing messages to the screens.
Stay in touch and let me know how you go with the FM radios that you are going to configure 🙂
Regards Tim
Hi Tim, yes it sounds like you have some things going on there. My project has been on the brain for a while but now being retired I get to spend time on bringing it to fruition. My first radio is a Heathkit HW 202 from around 1976 or so. The radio at 20 bucks is in line with all the AliExpress parts I'll need. Flowchart in hand I'm off to start the code. Arduino nano...
