@elvendecker Keep in mind that camera is NOT for a normal Pi, only a Pi 0 or an ESP32-CAM. I have Motion-Eye OS installed on a Pi0, not sure if there is an equivalent for the ESP32-CAM but I bet there is. That OS is the goto piece of software for your kind of use case. Make sure you get a Pi0-W if you go that route so you don't need any ethernet cables, HOWEVER if you can route an ethernet cable check out POE (Power Over Ethernet) for powering the whole setup. Good luck.

First computer 1959. Retired from my own computer company 2004.
Hardware - Expert in 1401, and 360, fairly knowledge in PC plus numerous MPU's and MCU's
Major Languages - Machine language, 360 Macro Assembler, Intel Assembler, PL/I and PL1, Pascal, Basic, C plus numerous job control and scripting languages.
My personal scorecard is now 1 PC hardware fix (circa 1982), 1 open source fix (at age 82), and 2 zero day bugs in a major OS.

@zander Thank you.  Already working myself down that trail.  Important lesson learned is that I got myself hung up in a design niche when trying to multipurpose an old project.  🙂 Best
