Greetings everyone!

My name is Phil. I live near Minneapolis, MN. I’m a retired electronics engineer who has gotten back into electronics as a hobby. My primary areas of interest are autonomous communications, data encryption, and navigation. I have held an “Amateur Extra” class radio license for 20 years. Although I have not been very active in HAM radio recently, I have been doing a lot of experimenting with long range low power radio communications in the ISM bands, specifically LoRa radio on 915 MHz. My next radio adventure will be on 2.4 GHz.

I love to program in assembly language and I’ve done some pretty involved projects in the past with PIC microcontrollers. In the past year, I’ve learned Python, C/C++, and ARM assembly language.

I’ve acquired several Raspberry Pi 4 SBCs and am using them to run my encryption software and control those ISM radios to create a secure, portable data communications system. I’ve also acquired several different Arduinos and am currently using one to design an ECU for an old (and subborn) 4-cycle gasoline engine. (The ignition systems on small four-cycle engines are, in my opinion, rather “hokey” and shouldn’t be hard to improve upon.)

I have enjoyed DroneBot Workshop videos on YouTube for many months and have picked up quite a few “nuggets” of information. It was just recently, however, that I decided to check out the website and I’m very impressed! Thank you, Bill, for an incredible job!!!

Welcome to the forum.

A long time ago I used to use Assembly starting with the TRS80 (Z80), then C64 (6502), AMIGA (68000), early DOS machines (8085 family). When Windows arrived assembly was reduced to calling API functions and so it seemed a pointless waste of time with no speed advantage and the hardware only usable via provided software interfaces, no direct control.

As I am just a hobby electronics/programmer you are way out of my league 🙂
