I want to build a ventilation system using a fan that spins both directions.  I need it to spin 70 sec in and 70 sec out. Also I want to control the speed with buttons. 3 speeds high, low, and medium. I think this can be made with arduino. And I don't know what type of motor to use.

The easiest motor to use would be a dc motor controlled through an H-bridge like an L298. However, you have really told us nothing about your project. The brains could certainly be an arduino.

What are you ventilating? (Are we talking about a whole house? An aquarium? A warehouse?)

How much air do you want to move?

Will this always operate, or only sometimes?

Telling us more would certainly help!

@fabelizer

Thank you for answering.  I am trying to ventilate a single room. My kitchen.  The fan should work constantly in winter. I didn't calculate the volume of the room but is about 25m2 .  I already made the hole in the wall. With a diameter of 130 cm. If I can make the electronic part I will also construct something for recovering the heat. For this I need to go forward and  backward for a specific amount of time.
