I just bought a BOYA BY-M1 microphone to plug into my Drift Ghost X action camera.
Only complain I have so far is it comes with about 3.5 meters more cable then I need. Can anyone tell me if it would be safe to just cut and splice the wire ? I mean, is it a single conductor (if anyone knows) or is it somekind of shielded or coax conductor ?
I'm a beginner so I have to ask.
Thanks all !

I would imagine that it's multiple wires that are also shielded. It could be very delicate and difficult to work with. I have a lot of experience with audio capables, and even I don't like to have to cut and splice them. Although I do it on occasions and usually succeed, but sometimes not. In those latter cases I find myself having to go to confession for all the terrible things I said about the people who manufactured the cable. ? And I'm not even Catholic.
In any case, should you decide to get brave and cut the cable I would suggest buying a new plug for the end of it, and instead of trying to splice the cable back together just put a new jack on the end of it. That would make for a far neater modification.
