Sound has Arrived! BOOM!

All I did was unplug the USB connector for my recording studio and plug it into the Jetson Nano.  Instant Sound!   No configuration required.   Well, I guess I did need to go into the sound settings and select the Behringer mixer as the I/O/.   But this solves the sounds issue.   If it works with this mixer I'm sure it will work with the smaller one too.

So that's taken care of.  Now all I need to do is find out why Kdenlive won't launch?  It says that it's installed, but when I click on LAUNCH nothing happens.

I actually wrote the above post several hours ago, but realized I had never posted it.   So I went ahead and posted it just now anyway.

In the meantime:

Kdenlive is now ALIVE!

Long story.  I'll shorten it here:

  • Had to uninstall it
  • Needed to ADD a repository FIRST.
  • Then I reinstalled it.
  • STILL NO GOOD!

It still wouldn't launch from the desktop software launcher even though it had it listed as being installed.

Finally I launched it from the command line and that worked.   Then I moved the ICON to the taskbar and exited the command line program.   Clicked on the taskbar ICON and bingo it launches!

What a mess! 🤣

Ok, I guess I shouldn't be complaining since I got it up and running.

Next question:

Will it run on the Jetson Nano in a way that will be useful?

Tune in next week for another exciting episode of:

Robo Pi Tortures a Poor Little Jetson Nano

OK, so now, after all of this, where is the sound going?  (not the monitor, right?)  🙂

OK, so now, after all of this, where is the sound going?  (not the monitor, right?)  🙂

It actually goes to a Fender Guitar amplifier and comes out mono instead of stereo. 🤣

I actually have a bunch of headphones laying around that are also connected to the system and they do provide the stereo sound for when recording.    There's a pair by the rock drum set, a pair by the jazz drum set, a pair for the bass player, a pair by the keyboard, and a couple pair by the microphones for the vocalists.

I don't have a band though.  They all moved away. I guess they didn't like the sound of their own music. 🤣

So here I am living like a hermit all by my self in a cottage equipped with a complete recording studio complete with two drum sets, a generic bass guitar, a double keyboard synthesizer, a few saxophones hanging on the wall, along with a few guitars, some fiddles, and a banjo.  I'm sure I missed a lot of junk on that list.

So anyway, that's where the sound is going.  Out to a Fender Guitar amplifier.

When I connect up the small mixer dedicated to the Jetson Nano I'll just add that into the overall mix.

I was hoping to play with Kdenlive tonight but I'm BEAT!   I'm hungry, I need a bath, etc., etc., etc.

I was actually thinking of maybe making a musical recording video to try out Kdenlive to see how it works.  If I manage to do that I'll post the end result.  But don't hold your breath waiting for it to come out.  It could be quite some time before that happens.

Apparently I'm running the "Bionic Beaver". 🤣

NAME = Ubuntu

VERSION = 18.04.2 LTS (Bionic Beaver)

Yea. And one of the ROS packages I'm running is called "Melodic Morenia" which is running under the "Bionic Beaver"

I'm going to combine the names, and add some artistic license, and call it the "Moronic Beaver"

Melodic Morean is hardly Athena
but she'll pass the Goddess of Jetson

And the Bionic Beaver is the greatest deceiver

The two of them gloat as they often misquote

What!  No Trumpet?!

Where did I say no Trumpet? 😎

I actually have four trumpets.  Three standard Bb trumpets and one pocket trumpet.   In fact, I almost forgot about the pocket trumpet.  I haven't played it in a while.  I'll have to get it out and see if it still works.   It's actually out already.   It's been within arm's reach of my computer hanging on the wall here.   I just haven't reached over to  grab it lately.  I'm going to have to blow it out with air first, it's probably full of dust.  In fact, there's probably spiders living in it.   I better run the trumpet cleaning brush through it and see what kind of carcasses come out. 🤣

Here it is hanging on the wall:

Pocket (1)

Oh wait!  I do see a spider on it.

Pocket (2)

Oooooooo!  That's a big spider!  I better take this thing out in the yard tomorrow and wash it off with the garden hose. 🤣

Pocket (3)

As you can tell I don't have a wife.   No woman would dare come into my cottage unless she's a cave dwelling tomboy.

I also saw a cool case for the Jetson Nano from Waveshare.

Be wary of the camera you purchase!

On the IMX219-170 from Waveshare the mounting holes in the corners of the PCB are smaller that the nylon screws provided with the case.  And I think the screws are either 2 or 2.5mm.  I still need to measure them, but I know for a fact the screws that come with the case are too large to go through the mounting holes.  Guess how I know? 🤣

Coolware's description of their version of the case does NOT list the -170 as being a compatible camera (because of the hole size I would guess) but someone missed that when they we looking over the specs! 🤣 🤣

OK...  I didn't see 'trumpet' in your list of wall-hangings...  🙂

That's cute horn!   Looks like a Cornet or something...  an antique?

If you had a Lip, sounds like you may have lost it by now too...

I manage to get it out once a year, practice for 2-3 hrs, if that much, on New Years, and play Auld LangSyne and ending with Taps and CHARGE! (ending at high C).   Most of the time I manage to squeeze'em out with a few minor errors...  I made a recording a couple years ago.

You found a big spider in it?!  I don't think Y'all have Black Widows back there, do you...  They are deadly...  We have'em all over the place here...  I have never stuck a brush into mine...  I just oil the valves & tubes...  I keep mine in its case; no spiders can get to it. 🙂  You must be quite a musician with all those instruments around...  I play table-tops like Bongos when I get the urge from music on TV, etc.  FUN!

I actually bought it brand new. But I got it long enough ago that it probably is an antique by now. 🤣

It's just a regular Bb Trumpet.  It's just a pocket trumpet.  It's a standard Bb trumpet curled up to make it smaller.

I actually keep a trumpet in the bathroom and play it every time I pass my dinner waste material. 🤣

I know this sounds silly, and recently it's been the ONLY time I've been playing the trumpet.  But the point is that I usually play it several times a day.  So my chops are being kept alive thanks to the bathroom trumpet.

Actually no.  I'm terrible with music.   I think I have some sort of problem the prevents me from keeping good time.   Although when I play rhythm guitar with drummers they always say that I have a really good groove and find me a pleasure to play with.   Rhythm guitar is my 'best' instrument in terms of being able to play.

I basically just make noise on all the rest of them.

I have two sets of Bongos, one set of half-congas, and two full drum sets, one is a regular set and the other is a jazz set.   I bought the first set of drums determined to learn no matter what it took.  And trust me, it took a long time before I starting getting any sort of coordination going.   I'm still a horrible drummer and have  almost no limb independence.  I do fairly well if I just stay in a groove and don't try to ad-lib any fills.  As soon as I try to ad-lib a fill I get off track and find it hard to get back into the groove again.

I can do fills, but only if I have practiced them.  I need to know exactly what I'm about to do.  As soon as I try to ad-lib it becomes a train wreck.   It's really frustrating.  I'd love to get past this, but so far no luck.

That's a good idea about Playing the trumpet while sitting on the Can!

I would want to keep it in its case to keep it clean & free of moisture, etc.

I will have to think about that!  I would have to move the stack of favorite woodworking magazines to make room for the case!

Thanks for the good idea!  🙂   (I never would have thought it!  🙂  )

That's a good idea about Playing the trumpet while sitting on the Can!

The saying for trumpet:  "Play it daily or give it up".   I'm not sure who said that but I'm pretty sure I've heard it several times.    For me, the only way to guarantee that I'll play it daily is to resort to this questionable practice studio. 🤣

It really does work though!   At least for me.  I live alone so I don't need to worry about what other people might be doing with my trumpet in there when I'm not around. 😵

And it really does work.  I end up playing the trumpet several times a day because I eat a lot. (ha ha)

It's also and easy instrument to play in this situation.  Small enough to deal with without becoming problematic.  Truth be known I tried this with a saxophone once.  Once was enough!   The latrine does not make for a good saxophone practice studio.   But it works for the trumpet. 😎

Most people would never think of this.  And those who did most likely dismissed it immediately as being insane.  But since I'm already insane the thought of dismissing the thought never came into my mind.

To be perfectly honest it has paid off.   It beats never playing it at all.

Melodic Morean? Please elucidate. I love the rhyme.

See Spyder's post #4680

I think I got it wrong though.  I thought it was Morena it's actually Morenia which is a genus of turtles.

Morena is a Spanish name that rhymes with Athena.

And I actually spelled it wrong in the poem.  I spelled it Morean which would most likely be pronounced entirely differently.

Oh well, me bad for trying to make poems on the fly using misspelled words.

I better go back to practicing the trumpet. 🤣
