Made my debut into electronics many moons ago servicing tv's when they still used valves. Now back after a very long absence (now aged 73) into a whole new world. My main interest at the moment is automating various aspects of my aquariums. Quickly came to realise that Arduino's and the like are the way to go as they can replace whole swathes of discrete components in software. Luckily I do have some experience of programming but more than a little rusty on the detail.

Hello Ed,

I am also from Derbyshire (Killamarsh) and of a similar age.

The only technology I use with my aquarium is to get Alexa to turn the light and filter on and off.

@stubaby Hi Stuart. What a coincidence how our interests and experience coincide. My first computer was a 6502 based UK101. I had to build it myself from a kit. Wish I still had it but somehow lost it during a move. The 6502 had a much reduced instruction set compared to Z80 but I rather liked it that way. Probably would be called RISK in todays language. Z80 was faster though. I also recently acquired a 3d printer (Ender 3) and I love it.

I bought a BBC Model B when they first came out. That had a 6502 and you could embed 6502 assembly code into a Basic program if you wanted it to run (a lot) faster. Yes, the 6502 was much simpler to program in assembler than the Z80.

I also have an Ender 3, I've had it for about 18 months, I think. I enjoy designing and printing odds and ends. I use Fusion 360 and Tinkercad. I've recently been making bits for my other hobby, geocaching.

I'm considering getting an Ender 3v2 but can't really justify it. Still, what's the point in saving for your retirement if you don't spend it.
