Actually, it's NOT a job offer LOL!

One thing that this forum is missing is a proper set of instructions for making use of it. Many of our new members are confused about how to perform common tasks like entering code samples or attaching images and videos.

This is understandable as this forum isn't designed around VBulletin, phpBB, or myBB as so many forums are. I chose this design instead as it (a) can be styled to complement the website and (b) it is responsive, meaning that it reconfigures itself for tablets and phones.

So I want to create some help pages, complete with videos. And this is where I require help.

Since a lot of you have made a LOT more posts than I have you have likely come across some great tips and techniques for doing common tasks that I might not be aware of.  So I was hoping that you could share them with me.

Here is what I propose:

  • If you are interested in helping let me know, either by replying to this thread of my sending me a PM
  • After I (hopefully) have a few volunteers I'll create an outline of what items I'd like assistance with, and I'll put them in a new hidden section of the forum.
  • I'll give access to the hidden section to the volunteers, who can then, at their convenience, add their tips or suggestions.
  • Ones I get enough of them I'll compile them into Help pages and videos.

Also, I'll be doing some fairly major upgrades to the forum soon, probably next week. So there is a small chance that the procedure for doing some things may change due to the upgrade, or that we may have some new features to add to the list. And obviously, I won't film any video until the upgrades are done, as they may affect the appearance of the forum slightly.

So please let me know if you are interested.

Thanks

😎

Bill

Hi Bill,

I am very new to the forum but so far I haven't set it on fire so I'm feeling pretty good about it.

I am sure this has been covered 3 ways from Sunday but I would like to post an imagine of a switch I need help with and as of this moment haven't come close to the magic link. I was hoping some way would be here on this submission page, but I don't see anything obvious. So my suggestion would be: Please make adding an image a little more intuitive. After having asked for that thought, adding a picture probably is intuitive for a chimp and I'm just missing it.

The content has been great and I am way over budget preparing to tackle some of the projects.

Thanks for your hard work,

AirScooter

@airscooter

Just drag the image into your post!

Please make adding an image a little more intuitive.

That would be a suggestion for the people who wrote the forum software, not me. The best I can do is provide a set of instruction pages, which I am working on right now and hope to have up as early as next week.

It seems pretty intuitive to me.  Here is a snippet of the reply form with the mouse pointer hovering over the "My Media" link:

Not sure how it can be improved even from the forum software programmers point of view.  I suspect folks just over look that bottom row of text.  I guess it could be put at the top instead of the bottom, but even then someone would miss it. 😀

That wasn't all that dumb!  🤣 I think I over looked that myself in the beginning.  And that was far from the dumbest thing that I've ever done, but that's a story for another time.  Although the entire membership of the forum could have a good laugh over that incident!

Well, many are accustomed to seeing those links as buttons on some (or many) other places on the internet. So some CSS tweaks can be used to make them appear as buttons.

I would surely be up for this. I would be glad and happy to do some kind of documentation. 🙂
