@pakabol

Sorry, just saw this. It may have been a result of a setting that I made yesterday to try and reduce the number of spam sign-ups I have been getting.

I just dialed it back so hopefully it will be OK now.

@robo-pi

You're lucky that I don't instigate a "poetry ban" Robo Pi!

🤗 😎

Just kidding, I like your poems. Perhaps we can put music to them.

Be careful what you wish for.  I play guitar, keyboard, saxophone, trumpet, fiddle, bass and drums.

Plus I play them all as  poorly as I write poetry.  So beware of unintended suggestions. 😎

@dronebot-workshop

I just noticed that I no longer get email alerts when someone posts @robo-pi.    I used to get them and they just stopped.   I've noticed this because I've had several people respond to my posts using @robo-pi and I hadn't gotten any email alerts.

Is this just me?  Or was this feature changed?

P.S. I looked in my spam folder and they aren't in there either.

@robo-pi

I just checked my mailing service. It appears that you did actually get one (but only one) email successfully sent and received at 9:36 am today (I believe that would be my time, Eastern Daylight Time).

But you have also been sent several others today that were rejected by your mail server. The system keeps trying to send them until it gets a "Retry limit reached" status, after which it stops.

It seems this has been going on for several days now, for example, over the last three days you did receive a number of the emails, four of which were accepted by your mail server but only three were delivered. All the others were rejected immediately. I only retain records going back 5 days, so I can't tell how long this has been happening.

But it's not just you - it seems that it's happening to other users as well. The common factor is that you all have Yahoo email addresses.

I will submit a support ticket and see if this can be resolved. When I first set up the mailing service we also had issues with Yahoo, but they were resolved (by the mailing service, not me). I suspect that it's the same issue again.

Unfortunately other than opening a support ticket, there is not much I can do in my end. I've rechecked Yahoo's "Bulk email industry standards and best practices" document and confirmed that my settings are what they require for deliverability.  So the issue is between my mail service and Yahoo.

Sorry about that, if I get an update I'll let you know.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Bill

As an update, I submitted a ticket and have looked further into this.  I 've confirmed that Yahoo is indeed deliberately rejecting the mail.

It has to do with my mailing service, one of the other users is probably spamming Yahoo. The error messages have the following text embedded into them:

"Server response: 421 4.7.0 [TSS04] Messages from 69.72.42.8 temporarily deferred due to user complaints - 4.16.55.1; see https://help.yahoo.com/kb/postmaster/SLN3434.htm l"

The link they give you leads to a Yahoo page which gives you the following information:

"This error indicates Yahoo is seeing unusual traffic from your IP address and/or that emails from your mail server are generating complaints from Yahoo Mail users."

So one of the other users on my mail service is doing something naughty!

😥

Yahoo also indicates that the error is temporary. Hopefully, the issue will work itself out.

When I get an update I will let you know.

Bill

Ok, it probably is Yahoo then.

It's not just this forum alerts that I might be having problems with.  I just made an order at AliExpress, and they usually send me confirmation emails immediately.   But this time I didn't get one.  I double-checked my spam folder to be sure it's not there, and it wasn't.    But when I went back to AliExpress and checked "My Orders" the order shows up with all the parts I ordered.   So apparently the order went through, but I didn't get the email confirmation.

So this most likely has something to do with Yahoo.  I hope they get this straightened out.   Who knows what other emails I might not be getting?

Edited to add:

In a way it's kind of scary how dependent we become on these technological services.   If Yahoo were to crash I'd be in pretty bad shape in terms of being able to do much of anything on the Internet.   I wouldn't be able to verify anything via emails.

So yeah, we are deeply dependent on these technology companies.  And there's not much we can do about it.

In 1987 I was working as a Systems Analyst for the Government of Alberta. One of our other SA's said we needed to get into this "new" thing called the Internet, and a few days later I had my first email address. This was six years before the World Wide Web and all that fun stuff.

I remember telling my friends all about this new "Internet" thing and how it might just change the world one day. They all dismissed it as me just being silly.

It's impossible to imagine life without it. I used to be a bookworm, haunting the public library several nights a week. Currently, I don't even know where my nearest library is - I have this thing called Google now.

And you're correct - when it fails there isn't a lot we can do about it!

Same here.   Every Sunday I used to go to the Carnegie library in Pittsburgh PA as I used to live in the suburbs there.   I would check out 5 or 6 books to take home for the week, and then go back and get a new batch for the next week.    Those were the good old days.  That was lots of fun.

But as you say, now I've become a Google Geek.  Not nearly as rewarding.  I try to search for PDFs so I can download an actual "book". 🤣

Public libraries have come and gone
as the Internet has grown in size
And now the people who've read those books
have Google before their eyes

They type in queries and search through results
but with a breath of frustration they bellow insults

"Where is the data I need?"
they despairingly anxiously plead
with a mouse in their hand they click a command
as their veins and their arteries bleed

Hypertension pervades through their lives
as they yell at their husbands and wives
the knowledge they seek they haven't found in a week
as they search through the cyber archives.

Technology brings us the best
but the knowledge we seek is suppressed
and no one's to blame but the Internet fame
that has cursed us to be quite distressed

@robo-pi

Just received a response on the trouble ticket. They are aware of the Yahoo problem and have moved to a different IP address in order to try and resolve it.

I'll take a look at the console after I post this to see if Yahoo accepts the email message. Hopefully, this will resolve the problem.
