Hi Everyone
Thank so much for joining the DroneBot Workshop Forum! As of this writing, the forum has only been live for a few days but already we seem to have some great topics being discussed.
As with any new system, there are bound to be growing pains and this forum isn't immune to them. So I'm starting this topic to let you report any bugs, quirks or hiccups you might experience. You can also let me know your suggestions for improving the forum.
Here are a few things I'm aware of and am working on:
Email Delivery
Some of you haven't been getting the email messages sent when signing up or when requesting your password. I've been investigating and the problem seems to be that the messages are being rejected by the receiving email servers. Not everyone has experienced this, but some have.
I think I know what is causing this and have added some new records to my DNS, hopefully, this will resolve the problem. If you're still not getting mail from the forum email me at info@dronebotworkshop.com and I'll assist you.
Images
Right now the only way to embed an image into your post is to insert a link to an image that is already on the internet. As long as you have permission to use the image that's fine, but it is inconvenient.
You CAN upload an image (or many other types of files) as an attachment, but that doesn't display in the post.
I'm going to be enhancing the forum to allow you to upload images directly very soon. I'll also be adding an easier way to embed external images, as well as videos on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
Forum Structure
There is another topic already open on this, so I'm not trying to duplicate it here. But several have suggested expanding the number of topics so that everything is easier to find, and I agree that it is a good idea.
So in the next few days, you'll be seeing the structure change, and as a result posts you have made or are folowing may get moved. Nothing will be deleted and it shouldn't cause any noticeable downtime.
If you spot any other problems or have a feature to suggest please let me know.
Thanks
Bill

You just blow me away Bill with your super-human abilities. How you manage to address all these detailed issues while making videos, building robots, and keeping up webpages is beyond me. I have a hard time just keeping up with one project at a time.
We're going to have to start calling you, Superposition Quantum Bill. The probability that you are everywhere at once is 100%. ?

Thanks Robo Pi, hover I think "Superposition Quantum Bill" has been spending too much time behind the computer with no exercise as his particles seem to be gaining mass at an alarming rate!

Just wanted to announce that I have installed the add-ons to make uploading pictures and embedding images and videos a lot easier.
Here is how to upload images:
- If you click on the attachment icon (paperclip) you'll now get a dialog box that lets you manage media for the post. Click "Attach Files" and add one or more images. You can also add MP3 audio files as well as a number of other file formats. Currently, I limit the size to 2 MB - I'll see how that works out and change it if necessary.
- After you select the images you need to use the Start Upload button to actually upload them. Sorry about that, it's the way they designed the add-on.
- Finally, you use the Insert Into Post button to insert it into the post. It creates some bracketed text that will become the image(s) in your post.
The embed from another website is also enhanced:
- If you want to insert an image from another website just grab its URL and paste it in where you want the image. If there is any text after the "jpg" or "png" in the file name remove it. Please make sure you are allowed to use the image.
- If you want to insert a YouTube video just copy the YouTube page URL from your browsers address bar and paste it into your post. It should work with other video sites as well, but I've only tested with YouTube so far.
Images and videos will be automatically resized when they are inserted into posts. Images uploaded to the forum will open in a full-screen slideshow when clicked. Images from other sites will open the original image in another browser tab when clicked.
I'll be putting together some "how to use the forum" posts with quick explainer videos very soon, once I figure out everything myself!

Just a quick update - I am "messing around" with a few of the forum settings to try and enhance the performance and add a few new features. Occasionally one of my settings may have the wrong effect, so if you experience any intermittent operation it's probably just me!
Nothing to worry about and the data on the forum is backed up several times per day!
One aspect I'm trying to enhance is inserting code into posts. It works now but it's a bit awkward, also it would be nice if the code was formatted in color. I'm testing some changes to the sites CSS to see if I can improve it.

Cool. ?
The only thing is that you should find someone else to manage the technical background of the forum while you make VIDEOS!!!
We LOVE your videos Bill! ?
We can't get enough of them! I don't know if I can hold out until Thursday for the DB1 video.
I need a FIX now. My flowers are drooping. ?
Billy has me addicted
to videos so restricted
to Thursday and Saturday matinees
and now my life's conflicted
I dream of videos all through the week
as I work on my tractors and repair my antiques
Billy gave me the bug of a robotic drug
and now I feel like a geek

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Finally it's Thursday. I got my DB1 video fix. ?
Now if I could get a preview button in the post editor I'd be in pure bliss ecstasy.
By the way, enjoy the Montreal Jazz Festival! ?

I noticed we have crossed the 500 members line.
This is a very nice achievement in such a short period.
Congratulations Bill and thanks to all the contributors to this site that make it so attractive ansd enjoyable.
Thanks again.

Five hundred members building DB1
and every single one of them are having lots of fun
Billy has us tangled up in the spider web he's spun
sorry folks, I'm in a mood, and can't resist the pun
Let's take it one more verse before the poem's done
and try to fill the forums with rhythms overrun
we can measure all our progress by the ounce or by the ton
but without a Jetson Nano the project's underdone
Don't mind me, I'm just a senile senior setting sun

This is such a good resource for technical info couldn't have gotten to this point without it there is a lot of dronebot sketches in duce robot and I learned a lot about code keep on trucking ?
WWWWOOOOWWW lookin' at the youtube subscriptions 99K ... Bill you're almost ready to get you plaque in the mail. Congratulations a little before hand. Looks like within a month you will top out your 100K. This is some kind of awesome ... Great job friend...

Thanks Scott, I'm pretty excited about it myself. I already have a space on the wall for the silver play button, and being the optimist that I am I also made room for the Gold one too.
As for "within a month" it's actually closer than that, in fact, I predict it will occur sometime within the next 24 hours! Current count is 99,834 and I typically get about 250 new subscribers per day.
Amusingly I just had the cable TV guy over today to fix an issue and while I was here I gave him a tour of the workshop - he's actually the first person I've ever shown it off to (none of my neighbors have a clue that I have a YouTube channel). And it turns out that he's just getting started with the Raspberry Pi and he became subscriber number 99,821 a few hours ago. I'm hoping that he tells all of his friends back at the cable company!
So if anyone knows 166 people who are into electronics please ask them to subscribe! Or if you know 900,166 people I could get the Gold one!

You certainly deserve it Bill. You've put a lot of work and great care into both the workshop and the videos you make. And now you've got this great forum on top of that. You've done a great job.

Are you sure that cable guy wasn't from the FSB or worse still the CIA? ?
Thank James, I appreciate the nice comment! As of this writing, I have 70 more to go!

Hmm... He was polite, friendly and knew what he was doing. And he did change all of the coax connectors, both inside and outside.
He was also VERY interested in both my Nvidia Jetson Nanos and DB1. And when I purchased the Jetson I got from Sparkfun I had to fill out some paperwork to export it out of the US (although the Jetson I got from Pimoroni had no such requirement), I had to prove that I wasn't going to export it to a non-friendly nation.
So maybe he wasn't a real cable guy! As I'm in Canada he could have been with CSIS.
