That's about as bad as not plugging something in and wonder why it don't work! ?
I do that far more than anyone should ever confess to. ?
I've even gone as far as to start taking something apart to investigate why it won't run before I finally realize that I just never plugged the dang thing in.
The problem is that I only have one life to live but I have enough interests and hobbies to fill up several lifetimes. So I'm in a real pickle here. Nature doesn't seem to want to cooperate with the kind of lifespan I require to satisfy all my hopes and dreams.
And as you get older the more you might want think about what you most want to do in the time you probably have left. We need to enjoy the journey for the destination is the same for all of us regardless of what we do during that journey. So many people fret about the little things or even the big things forgetting that one day none of it will matter.
And as you get older the more you might want think about what you most want to do in the time you probably have left.
I've gone through all the philosophy already. In fact, by the time I was 30 I already realized that I won't only not have the time to do the things I would like to do, but I've also come to grips with the reality that many of the things I would like to do are basically impossible for all practical purposes. ?
Recently I've only just now gotten back into robotics at 70 years old.
His excellent instructional videos on microcontrollers and all the modules available today sparked me to get all my old robotics junk back out and take another look at it. Many of the ideas I talk about today I actually had back when I was 30,... let's see,... that would have been around, 1979.
I basically gave up on my ideas back then because the technology required to bring them into reality was either non-existent, or at such a high cost that it was simply out of my reach. I would have loved to have gotten a carrier in robotics back then, but such carries were extremely rare to come by, especially without requiring a massive relocation which I simply wasn't open to.
Today, many of the things that I would have basically had to design myself from scratch using discrete components are now readily available at extremely affordable prices, as well as having tons of software, libraries and YouTube videos explaining how to use them. Back when I was 30 you were pretty much on your own trying to figure out how to make things work.
The other thing that has changed is the availability of complex ICs in small smd packages, as well as places like PCBWay that will produce your circuit boards for you for basically peanuts. None of this was available back in 1979.
So now, at 70 years old, standing next to my grave watching the dirt falling in the hole I'm FINALLY in a position where I might be able to make some real progress on my robotic ideas.
Assuming I don't slip and fall in the hole first. ?
By the way Casey, I'm not the least bit worried about the end of my life as a humaniod. I have no clue what the true nature of reality is, but I have fully accepted the mentality of "Que sara sara". So I'm totally open to accepting whatever the future might bring.
None the less, from a purely practical perspective we simply know that the biological units call humans don't last forever. There always comes a time when their batteries simply cannot be recharged anymore. We all might secretly like to imagine that this law of nature doesn't "really" apply to us. But being the scientifically minded individual I am, I don't pretend to ignore the physics of reality.
So it's not that I'm worried that I'll never do everything I would like to do. It's simply that I acknowledge that this is indeed the truth of reality. But yeah, I'm a 'young 70". Ever time someone asks me how old I am and I reply "70", they always yell back, "Come on! I'm serious, how old are you?". I've even had people who were so unwilling to believe this they asked for proof. I had to show them my official I.D. and even then they were still skeptical and thought I was pulling their leg.
So if physical appearance is any indication of longevity I might have another productive 30 years in me yet. ?
Let's see? That would take me to 100 years old. That's certainly not out of the question. Lot's of people have made it further than that. My mother was 90 when she passed. So I should be looking at the next 20 years as basically "locked in". ?
Let's see? How can we incorporate this into a discussion about the LED&KEY board?
Bill was talking about making a video on how to build a Time Machine. Maybe we can get him to use the LED&KEY board for the time display on that project?
Just What Is this LED & Key board you're talking about... anyway? 🙂 😀
I know. This thread has gotten so far off topic we're in Never Never land now. ?
But that's ok. There's only so much that can be said about an LED board. I started the thread just to share the find. I didn't even know these things existed until I ran across them by accident. I was actually looking for LED 7-segement discrete components to build my own LED board, but when I ran across these boards and realized they are already built for about the same price you could buy just the LED displays for I got all excited and had to start the thread to share the find. ?
But now the thread has apparently become "upgraded" to a General Chat thread.

This picture needs a caption!
Mine would be:
Star Date 45 23 point 5, the European Commission receives another application from the UK government to extend the Brexit deadline by three months.
By the way, where's Bill? I haven't seen his Avatar for a few days!
I don't know. I haven't seen any signs of him for a while either. I hope everything is ok with him. Hopefully he's just too busy to waste time talking about moonshine. ?

Yep... I'm bad at keeping on topic... Not sure how to start / find a new topic... I have to snoop around... Sorry I messed it up... Will try to stay on topic...
