I am just completing the Currawong Valve Audio Amplifier Kit that Altronics (Australia)  is "getting out of" due Russian Valve supply hassles. It has a little servo connected to the volume pot so I could pretend it was a "robot" of sorts, but no one is kidding any one here, it is brutally "off topic". I am planning on using Dalton Mass drivers as  the basis of a speaker system. I am a Proper Industrial Electronics guy and can promise you all faithfully I wont start smoking blunts and going all Jefferson Airplane and expansive Audiophile on yo'all. I ask your indulgence Ladies and Gentlemen. We will stick to hot cathodes and power curves.

I like the tone and practicality of this group and I trust we all have a fondness for the electronics we grew up with ...

Kindest M

P.S. by way of justification; I live in an Off Grid RV that uses Smart Home IOT tech that I have built myself and hope to integrate my new "pride and joy" into such an environment. Be reassured Arduino and ESP 32 will be mentioned frequently in my discussion.

I await you're kind indulgence.

Scanning the "Recent Posts"... and wondering what a valve was, skipped it and somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind (something must have been re-mounting a tape drive file) hit me... a "valve" is what I call a "tube" and decided to poke myself into your thread.

I certainly don't think it's too far off topic.  Keep it coming! 👍

I started coming into a little discretionary money in 1980 (meaning starving college student level) I was leaving LP's behind as fast as I could and buying my first CD's.  A year later in my first co-op job, an OLD engineer (somewhere in his 30's) being a well established audiophile would look me strait in the eye and swear he could hear the CD's digital steps.  He invited me to his house to see his $5000 turntable that looked like a tank and supposedly used air to suspend both the platter and the arm...  He also had the tube (valve) amps.  I was more interested in the mechanical design of the turntable... What did this dinosaur know about modern Hi-Fi?!

... now I look back and think, what did that snotty-nose kid (me) know about any damn thing? 🙄

I wish I knew someone still doing those systems.  I would really like to hear the differences.
