Back when I was a kid living in Los Angeles there were still a few of these type. Turns out these were still in use circa 1955 or so even though they were put into service in the mid 1920's.

Here's my latest project that I call Olde Tyme Traffic Signal. While it is not an exact copy of those first used in the 20 I intend for it to capture the essence of those used at the time as there are many differences from even the pic above since I have no plans of the originals. All scaling is done around the lenses I bought thru Amazon that are 75mm wide and the rest of the dimensions are guesses. Below represents about 5 hours in Tinkercad, about 30 hours of 3d printing and CA glue trying to stick my fingers together. (Did you know the enough superglue on your finger print will prevent access to your phone? Don't ask me how I know that. )

The flag mechanism is together and working but still requires mounting to the main body which hasn't been established at this time.

LED's will light the lenses, an arduino will operate the motor driving the flags and will operate the lights.

This is probably the most ambitious project I've attempted since acquiring my two 3d printers as the box pictured above is not something I've downloaded from thingiverse, however, I admit, it there were one on thinkiverse I'd probably have used it.

Warning y'all in advance, I will need help with my arduino sketch for this although I will make some attempt at programming it myself first.

Electronics included are:

1 12 volt motor for flag drive

H bridge for easy motor reversal

2 micro switches to act as end stops for the flags (only 1 may be needed) They are adjustable at any point of 360 degrees.

1 40mm muffin fan perhaps with a thermostat to insure proper cooling that I'd like to include as insurance tho it's likely not needed.

and of course 1 Arduino Uno.

Am I having fun yet?
