Imagine a robot donations bin for spare electronics possibly some materials and maybe even some big ticket items in there to and a request section where someone can say I need  "this" and people can respond . this can help to expidite robot projects and dreams yet to be realized . if you can't share fun and wonderment what can you share?  I could crank out robot cabinets all day if I knew somebody. Wanted  em . just tossing out an idea enjoy.?

Nice idea. The logistics involved may be too complex, I'm afraid.

It does sound like an excellent idea, there are a lot of old electronics and mechanical parts that get put aside for scrap that someone may be able to make use of.

Are you thinking of something online, or an actual physical "bin"?  Or even a section of the forum where people can trade parts?

A section on the forum would be a good place to start maybe start to compile a list of things people want to donate and delegate from there to a request list if a component becomes available to a request the person gets a notification or something then perhaps the sender and receiver can sync up on delivery that's a grey area there but can most likely be worked out the friendly honor system seems to be working thus far.?

The fact that the members of this forum are spread all over the world makes the idea of a parts exchange not really a practical solution. Just the cost of postage is prohibitive. I have got a stack of surplus electrical components and sensors that I would like to rid of, and I think I need an Arduino Mega.

I am actually looking for a local Arduino Users Group, where I might be able to swap some of my excess for somebody else's excess.

I will certainly consider it, I was actually going to create a post asking if there were any new forum sections people would like to see added.  I'll collect some ideas and make the changes.

Now that the Post Preview is finally working I'm considering adding a few new features as well, including Private Messages. That might help folks exchange contact information without giving their email addresses out publicly.

It would be nice to get a list of "local Arduino Users Groups" and similar clubs around the world.  I'd like to find one locally myself.

@dronebot-workshop

We all tend to buy more than we need.

Example:

I recently bought some NEO-6M modules but they came in packs of three, so I bought three antennas. So I have one or two too many. There is an Arduino User Group here in Hamburg, that meets once a month. I think I will go along and find out whether they've got a swap market, if not I'll suggest one.

Your problem might be geographical, living in the second largest country in the world (I know, I have been there) with a relatively small population, your closest Arduino Users Group may be in Toronto ? ? ? ? ?

An academic point of view

You'll learn Arduino code
and Python a la mode

You'll build a working neural net
that can quickly learn the alphabet

You'll print it arms from PVC
and legs as sturdy as a tree

You'll write a stellar thesis
on robotic masterpieces

You'll graduate with favors
and be given special waivers

And then you'll find you're unemployed
as your DroneBot becomes another,...
