Raspberry Pi 4 and USB 3.0 shielding

So I just got a Raspberry pi 4, the Nespi4 case and an SSD. I have found that my 2.4GHz keyboard and mouse combo has interference when I have the SSD cartridge in. After a quick search I could see that it seems to be an issue with the USB 3.0. Some had claimed that using tin foil they stopped the interference and others said it did not work for them.

 

So leaving out the specific case out of the equation, I started to look for EMI problems on 2.4GHz connections and found this White Paper from Intel that had discovered the problem years ago and lists possible solutions.(If this was known then, why did they put the 2.0 and 3.0 ports right next to each other?)

 

So as of right now, plan is to line places that have electrical connections exposed with Kapton tape and use copper foil tape to shield the SSD, PCB board for the SATA interface, cabling and jacks on the Pi.

 

Sorry for my question being so late but here it is. Do I need to connect the shielding to ground for it to work properly or will it covering the devices running at those speeds be enough? I am not sure how I would ground the removable SSD, I don't really want to open it up to connect it to it's ground pin.

 

Or are there any other suggestions?

I have more questions, and really basic ones at that, to ask.

 

I know Kapton/Polyimide tape is considered non conductive(to a point well beyond what I am using it for) but I want to know about the sticky side. If I tape over components/make contact with exposed copper, will it also stay isolated on that same side?

 

Also, if I connect the shielding to ground in the cable that is also carrying the signal for the SSD, could that affect the speed or digital signal integrity? It is using differential signal pair so I think it would be ok on that side of things and not messing up a reference.
