To show a little (more) of my ignorance and further proof that I don’t know what I’m doing… Are you guys telling me (or suggesting) that I should throw my (yellow) TT-style motors away and go with TT-style motors with metal gears and an included encoder (or even stepper motors) for my self-balancing robot?? I have no experience in implementing motors, motor drivers and motor control in a project. Much less anything about the timing and control loops needed to keep the thing balanced. I'm working on the basics of motor control using the Pico2W now, using a test jig I built up with the Pico2W, TB6612FNG, and power supply. It's all about the learning process, right??  I apologize for these very elementary questions.

Yes, it is all about the learning process!  And I apologize for disparaging what you're working with.  Obviously, you can make it work and its a great breaking the ice project:

I am really looking forward to seeing your progress.  There are lots of people here that will jump in and help at the mere hint of a question or problem.

@lee-g your setup is great for a self balancing bot. In general terms I think smaller and lighter bots may exhibit a bit more wobble from what I understand but Im a rank newbie on these sort of bots like you.

I’ll be having a go with a pico2w and MicroPython to start with and happy to compare notes as we progress, or not, on our wobbly bots if you wish.

ps I think you will need encoders for feedback though

Ditto!

This is my first "attempt" starting also:  https://forum.dronebotworkshop.com/user-robot-projects/inqster-the-re-awakening

@lee-g, You're welcome to retaliate/question sanity/throw darts in my topic all that you want.

VBR,

@inq

It's not in my nature to 'retaliate/question sanity/throw darts' at anyone or their project. I'm just an 'old, fat, retired' guy trying to keep busy by 'messing with' these electronic gizmos.

Regards,

...lg
