I have some mechanical 7 segment 10" digits that are driven from 32 - 60v. Each segment has a start winding and an end wiring connection, to flip the digit one way it's powered for a a specific amount of time. To flip the other way the polarity is switched, exactly the same as a brushed motor.

I'd like to build a small scoreboard with them and have tried wiring using relays but ended up with a few burnt out ones. I suspect it was the lack of diode and interference coming back that did it.

I watched Dronebot Workshop L298n video and thought and H-bridge would be right. The voltage looks okay but the loses and amps would be a problem.

Would making my own H-bridge with FETs work?
Anyone have any diagrams or suggestions?

Many thanks

Carl
