I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas on a charging station design for a robot. My robot is circular with two wheel drive and one caster in the back. If anyone has a design that might work for this style robot I would love to get some input on this.
For those who haven't seen it Chip posted some images of his robot base here.

First you will need a hunger sensor. Maybe monitoring the battery voltage via an analog input? And you will need a sensor to indicate the battery is fully charged.
The charging station might have a flashing light of some frequency (so not to confuse it with other light sources). The detector can filter out all but that frequency. Then you use light sensors arranged as they do in a light following robot. You will need a bumper switch or some other method to know the robot has connected with the charger. When the robot hits the charger it needs to rotate until the terminals connect. Or maybe two circular rings for the contacts around the robot that will align with the contacts on the wall then the robot will know it has hit that part of the wall.
