I'm not ready for that yet - Still a lot of learning to do on the electronics side for me 🙂

Nevertheless, thank you for the link, it does sound like a good deal.

I second that ? I would rather get an idea of what making custom PCBs is about before spending a lot on it. Do you know which of the built in tutorials I should start with?

Also, you mentioned that you printed up a PCB for a power distribution board. What fuse holders did you use?

Ps. Does anyone know if Bill plans on putting out a schematic for the motor controller board?

Thanks.

@egers & @frogandtoad

I can understand your reluctance to spend more money for the purpose of learning a software package that there may be good video tutorials available for free.  But I have watched many of those same videos myself, and I still find the book much better than all the videos put together.  And the cost of the book is just a fraction of the cost of my time used in learning KiCad.

For under $40.00 you can have a excellent reference for using the product.  What is really amazing is the software itself is free, when its value if much more than the cost of the book.

In any case, I think you will find KiCad an excellent choice.

And to the question as to whether Bill was going to publish a schematic for the motor controller, he probably will, but I have a schematic for the motor controller board I made using KiCad as my design tool.  This board was designed using the original design Bill had for the motor controller.  I'll be glad to share if anyone would like a copy.

Can you share with me the schematic for both the power distribution & the motor controller to experiment with?

Thanks.

@egers

Look back on page 1 of this thread and the PDF of the power distribution schematic can be found.

Attached here is the schematic for the motor control board I designed from Bill's first iteration of the board using the Arduino Nano.
