I have a pretty nice 500 Watw bldc controller.

  • I have a  14 pole 350 Watt bldc motor
  • I have a converted v8 car alternator that is now a bldc motor that is larger than the  controller.

How do I put the controller and motor together so nothing burns out ?   A bldc controller with a smaller motor, will the motor burn out.  The 500 watt controller with the huge alternator off a car, will the controller burn out ?

In a nutshell I have a controller with a larger and a smaller motor available.  Which do i choose and why  🙂

I like the low speed of the 14 pole motor, should I buy a 600 watt bldc motor ?

Thank you very much.

Hi @timfox123,

Others on the forum may be able to give you more direct advice. However, in the absence of a specific motor and specific controller, I doubt if anyone can offer more than general thoughts.

There are many styles and configurations of BLDC motors, each of which require active electronics to produce the waveforms required to drive that particular type. For example see the Wikipedia article which briefly describes some of the alternates:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brushless_DC_electric_motor

I suggest you propose a specific motor and controller you think may be of interest, and see if anyone can help you.

Best wishes, Dave
