Greetings all, I have been writing software, mostly microsoft, for 35 years professionally.  I've always had an interest in electronics.  Looking to create some cool home projects and get my home automation system up and running.

@naughton Welcome to the forum. I think you will find coding for Arduino etc much easier and more fun than Microsoft.

First computer 1959. Retired from my own computer company 2004.
Hardware - Expert in 1401, 360, fairly knowledge in PC plus numerous MPU's & MCU's
Major Languages - Machine language, 360 Macro Assembler, Intel Assembler, PL/I and PL1, Pascal, Basic, C plus numerous job control and scripting languages.
My personal scorecard is now 1 PC hardware fix (circa 1982), 1 open source fix (at age 82), and 2 zero day bugs in a major OS.

@zander I have written a couple Arduino programs, it was a little difficult to think in such simple terms at first.  But I do love coding using C# and Microsoft Visual Studio, things they have had 25 years or more to perfect.

@naughton I think my favourite language is still Macro Assembler. You created your own language by using macros.
