I have been an electronics enthusiast since the early 70's. I used to go to a huge electronics store with my father where we co0uld sit for hours going through bins of parts designing crazy circuits. It's sad that all of the old stores have closed up so all you can do now is go through a website placing orders. This place even had a little lobby in front where you could get a cup of coffee and sit there and work on schematics or talk to others about problems. I used to carry out boxes of parts...along comes the micro-controller. Now something you can lose in your pocket has more power then what used to cover a workbench. They are so cheap and versatile, it's hard not finding something fun to do with them.
