Greetings from Loveland, Colorado, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.  My name is Loyd Nelson.  I am an ornery, old retired guy.  Got a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering back in the days when the university computer programs were written on punch cards!  I designed digital circuits and computers for about 15 years at Hewlett-Packard.  That was in the days when the bell would ring over the intercom system and you knew that the sales quota for the month had been reached and we would all go out to the courtyard and have beer and brats provided by the company to celebrate before going home early.  When the PC came out, I decided to switch to developing software applications for the PC.  I have software experience from assembly language (low-level database design and user interface) through C and C++ and finally C#.  Now that I have been retired for a while, I have returned to my roots and have started building little electronic projects.  Boy! - how the world has changed!  I am constantly amazed at the sophistication of the single board computers nowadays!

Bill, before I go further, I want to thank you for your excellent work with the DroneBot Workshop!  You do a great job!  I have used your videos on a number of my projects.  In particular, I have been enjoying your series on DB1.  I haven’t started building one yet as I have been kind of waiting to see what you were going to use to control it.   I had already decided that the Jetson Nano is what I was going to use and was very pleased to find that you have made the same decision!  I am now a proud owner of a Jetson Nano and have started Nvidia’s JetBot project to learn about it.  I look forward to learning with you about the Nano.

I think this forum is a great idea.  Generally, I am not a “joiner” but, in this case, decided that I would join to see what I might learn and contribute.

Hi Loyd

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad that you decided to become a "joiner" this time, I look forward to more of your posts.

I'm actually old enough to have worked on punch cards, as well as a LOT of paper tape. Things have evolved a lot since then!

I'm sure we'll be discussing the Nano and other subjects in future posts. Thanks again for joining!

Hi everyone, I'm Michael T, originally from the East End of London, currently living in Honolulu Hawaii where the weather seems to be a bit more suited to human life-forms.  Recently retired from an almost-lifetime in the radio business and thus able to spend more time in a little machine shop I put together a few years ago to refashion my chops as a toolmaker, an earlier career chapter in London.  It's been most therapeutic, and recently my interests have expanded into electronics, especially micro-controllers and such.  I had the good fortune to stumble across Bill's most excellent site a couple of months back, about the same time the DB1 project was launched.  It was a religious moment, and my version-so-far  (Basil) is sitting on my bench awaiting further guidance from Workshop Central.  I've also begun to tussle with NVIDIA's little miracle, which is tremendously exciting since it seems destined to be a major part of Basil's brain.  Thank you Bill, and everyone pursuing this fascinating vision.

Michael T

Hi, my name is Martyn and I live in Liskeard, Cornwall (U.K.) not far from Plymouth.

I made animatronics in the 80s and 90s when we still used pulses on cassette tapes to control Pneumatics. I don't make them anymore but have recently become interested in using the Arduino to control figures, purely as a hobby. Its all new to me but I seem to be picking it up. I will need help though and look forward to talking with you all.
