Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum. Glad to be here! I'm an EE and software developer by trade. I've done some embedded work with various Arduino's and Pi's. About a year ago started migrating most of my efforts to the ESP-32. But I enjoy most all platforms. Most of my efforts are home automation; pool pumps, chicken coops, pump houses, and just random weird ideas.
Welcome to the forum and thanks for bringing chicken coops back into the limelight where they belong 🙂
Anything seems possible when you don't know what you're talking about.
Hey everyone. chicken coops, random weird ideas.
A while ago my daughter asked for a mechanism to let the hens out, I said "that's too weird for me"
Seriously ! ( apart from the weird bit )
It would have got quite complicated involving solar power as well as the mechanics and she lives nearly 200 miles away to make it even less attractive. A divorce from a Horrible Husband solved the problem, he got custody of the hens.
Was the solar power to be used to ensure that they could only get out in the daylight ?

@will Now they have Lunar panels to let them out at night.

@espaviator Welcome to the forum, good to see another esp32 fan.

@will The chicken run is fenced and electrified on the outside.

You've heard of hawks, eagles, ... They're rarely discouraged by fences, electrified or not 🙂

Damn - there was me with a load of electronics, battery, solar, daylight calculations when all it needed was a solar panel and a solenoid bolt.
Mind you, northern England in the winter, sun is like hen's teeth.
"Hey mister, we've not been out of this shed for a week".
"You've missed nothing"
@will That's why there is a netting over top as well. All the fences and netings have tell tales to try to keep the critters from getting entangled.

Even with a typical chicken IQ they wouldn't want to go out in the rain anyway 🙂
