Hello everyone, My name is John and I am a 52 yr old guy from Texas. I maintain some really big 911 networks for a really big acronym company I can't disclose. I enjoy micro-controllers and robotics since I can make all the mistakes I want and not make the news or kill somebody.
I mainly do Arduino and BeagleBones, but am open to anything really. I mentor a HS FRC Robotics team and they use National Instrument's Robo Rio coded in LabView. I also build fine furniture and have started to incorporate some microcontrollers/actuators into my work, with mixed results, but time will tell.
I really enjoy the DBWS on Youtube, and between DBWS, Paul McWhorter, and Andreas Spiess, I decided to pony up for YouTube Premium. I have shied away from forums in the past due to the level of general disrespect, but I know Bill has a good group so I decided to give it a try.
I had to learn LabView in order to teach the kids, and that led me to buy ($50) LabView Home Edition and I use that on my BeagleBones and Arduinos. I also code a bit in C++, XOD (thx Bill), Python, and a little Javascript as a byproduct of Adafruit & Microsoft's MakeCode series for little kids. (I am trying to get the little kids and their parents in town into something other than HS football/concussions).
Really looking forward to learning a bunch of new stuff from everyone here! Thanks for having me.
John
