I found this forum while looking for information on the GC9A01 round TFT displays,  and was pleased to see it looks like a great resource.  I've been messing with electronics and building radios for as long as I can remember, got my ham license at age 14 and it set my career on track.  Now retired (Honeywell, technology and business development) and have time to play!   There was a time when the idea of me writing C++ code would have drawn a big chuckle but if you want to use cool parts to do interesting things, well as they say you gotta learn to code!

Still no expert programmer but I'm learning and like most adults, that means "by doing" not by reading books, so that brings me to forums where others who have greater knowledge and experience are willing to share.

In return, since most of my projects have to do with emitting or receiving RF energy of some sort,  I've got a pretty good background in RF, also test and measurement,  troubleshooting and repair (my basement is a museum of vintage ham and related gear), and I'm fairly handy at building stuff, so hopefully I'll be able to give something back.    And since the name of the forum implies a focus on robotics, I'll add that I started the first US First robotics program in the state of Illinois back in the 90s - great fun and a big advocate of STEM education, especially in the ham radio community which historically has been at the forefront of technology but in my view, needs to kick it up a notch.

I sign my posts with 73, the ham shorthand for "Best regards",

Bob W9RAN

@w9ran, Welcome to the forum Bob!..Indeed, you'll find some members interested in your Ham hobby.

There is a variety of knowledge and skill sets among the members, but the one thing we all have in common is electronics in general, and learning how to improve our coding ability as the future seems to be in the IoT world ( Internet of Things) that will require some level of programming ( coding) ability. As I come from an Industrial process controls background, (Instrumentation/electrical technician), hence my handle (Inst-Tech), my experience is mostly hardware instrumentation analog & digital, but a fair amount of programming, DCS, PLC, MFC's and the like. Again, welcome to the forum, and we hope to see some of your projects come to fruition in the near future.

kind regards,

LouisR

@W9RAN

Welcome to the forum Bob,

As @inst-tech said, there are many members here with wide and varied experience in both electronics and programming. And as I’m sure you’ve noticed our host Bill, aka @dronebot-workshop, is a master at explaining things so we can all understand. All his videos are excellent!

I too am a long-time ham operator (WB5DTU), having gotten my license back in the 60’s while I was in the USNavy. While I’m no longer active as a ham, thanks to HOA covenants; I try to keep up with the electronics world and am currently interested in all things related to AI.

Once again, welcome!!

73’s,

Lee
