Hi, I'm DavidL.  I'm a 57 year old software developer currently living in Florida.

I've tried intermittently over the last 15 years to learn a little about electronics.  I usually spend a few weekends tinkering and lose my motivation.  The projects on this site have a nice mix of hardware and software, so I'm hoping this time it will stick.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to the forum David. I and many others are also former or current IT types, lots of interesting projects that involve hardware and a little software are possible.

First computer 1959. Retired from my own computer company 2004.
Hardware - Expert in 1401, and 360, fairly knowledge in PC plus numerous MPU's and MCU's
Major Languages - Machine language, 360 Macro Assembler, Intel Assembler, PL/I and PL1, Pascal, Basic, C plus numerous job control and scripting languages.
Sure you can learn to be a programmer, it will take the same amount of time for me to learn to be a Doctor.

Welcome aboard! I am also a retired software engineer, however, I do hold a BSEE degree.

@sj_h1 That's ok, we won't hold it against you.

@zander, thanks for the welcome.  The hardware side is still very much a mystery to me, so that's the part I'm enjoying most.  It's nice to be able to fall back on software sometimes so I don't feel completely lost, but the hardware is the most interesting aspect.

@sj_h1 Hi sj_h1, thanks for the welcome!  I'm looking forward to being retired in about 9 years and 9 months (I'm counting the days).
