Hello. My name is Dan. I currently work as a prosthetics and orthotics technician and have been doing hobby making and electronics for a few years.
My main project at the moment is for a friend who uses a power wheelchair for mobility. I'm building a power chair that she can use while on the beach. It's a rather ambitious project, and it has been a few years in the making but I'm hoping it will be ready for testing in a few months.
I must admit that I've been somewhat hesitant to join any groups because of previous experience of feeling less than welcome due to my noobidity, but I'm dipping my toe in here under the impression that this is an inclusive and supportive community.
See you in there!
@dubbadan
Hi Dan, welcome to the forum. Your "noobidity" is immaterial here, there's lots of it going around 🙂
Are you planning on using oversize tires or some form of tank-like tread for the wheelchair ?
I had a psychic girlfriend but she left me before we met.
@dubbadan Or treads, or corkscrews or ground effects.
Arduino says and I agree, in general, the const keyword is preferred for defining constants and should be used instead of #define

@will Yeah I'm using (slightly modified) Wheeleez. If you like I could post some pictures. I am modelling the chair on others that I have seen on the internet, so it's not really an original idea, just a DIY version.

Welcome Dan...indeed, we are a very diverse group of fellow enthusiast who enjoy electronics and software development.. many on here are noobies, but there are also some pretty sharp folks versed in both electronics, mechanical design, software, and networks.. so you'll get plenty of variety...lol
Your project sounds interesting, and I look forward to seeing how it turns out
