Hello Everyone,

My name is James.  I was born and live in the great state of Texas.  I am a Automation and Control Systems designer in the Oil and Gas industry, and hopefully, only a few years away from retirement.

Even though I am older than most here, I am probably one of the noobiest (sp?) when it comes to electronics.  I am an Amateur Radio Operator (AG5VE), and very interested in learning electronics, but the information available on the internet is overwhelming. And all over the map. I discovered Bill and his Dronebot Workshop on YouTube. His videos are very clear and easy for me to follow, even if I don't completely understand. But at least I feel like I have a roadmap to follow now. I have ordered my first Arduino board, and it should be here any day now.  Can't wait to get started.

Thanks for letting me be a part of your community.

James

Hello James in Texas!  Welcome to the forum.  I'm in the also great state of Georgia and also a ham, N4TTY.  As far as being older than most here you might be surprised.  While we do have some younger members, without taking an official poll, I think you would be surprised at the average age.  I myself have already been retired for 12 years and will turn 74 next month.

Today is the GA QSO party, so get on the air and see if we might have a QSO.  I should be on the air some during the contest, but not the entire 12 hours we are limited to this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

You might also try looking up Paul McWhorter on YouTube.  He has a series on the Arduino that is an excellent starting place for "noobies" and would, along with Bill's videos, give you most everything you need to get started.

Good luck and I'll keep an ear out for you on 20 or 40 meters.
