@datashuttle Understood re off the grid, also was my concern. Good luck with it, I no longer have a need but do still have an interest in a BT to WiFi device. I took a quick look and was unable to find much info on the BT mechanics. Let me know if you make progress and are willing to share it.

@datashuttle Understood, from the LR of my RV I could seldom connect to the Victron 150/70 MPPT controller a few feet away in the basement. I am not a BT fan.

@datashuttle How far do you want to transmit? Have you looked into ESP-Now (Bill did a video), or LORA (Bill did recent video and range is impressive but very low data rate)

@zander Yes, I saw those two videos that Bill did, and were great as usual.

I would like to get the data anywhere my LAN is accessible, mostly around camp. I want to, say, swing from a tree in a hammock 60 feet away and say, gee, I wonder how my batteries are doing. You get the picture.

One of the first things I'm going to look into is some sort of BT to LAN bridge. If I can figure that out, and the water level sensor, I'm in business.

@datashuttle Ok, that is WiFi range or at worst a WiFi extender, easy peasy. The complication is BT. First, there are TWO BTs, classic and BLE and they are NOT compatible. I looked at a bunch of devices claiming to bridge BT (which one?) to Router/WiFi/Lan BUT all of them are proprietary and only work with the manufacturers BT devices. Some work wit Zigbee, so that is a possible avenue of research. I am posting a link from a device that sort of works, HERE  and a link to an Arduino forum discussion that will probably work but is a bit complicated HERE Good luck!

@zander Okay, take a look at this. I haven't read the details yet, but this might work.

@datashuttle Maybe, but a similar unit I saw reviewed was close, but lot's of BT stuff didn't work. It's only $41 so go for it.

Oh, don't forget it's BLE, not classic BT.

@datashuttle I had a quick browse, see some interesting mentions, but you will need to read ALL the details, keeping an eye out for marketing weasel words (remember it's legal in the USA to lie/puff on sales literature)

@zander I will, thanks. I also noticed they want $70+ to ship on top of the device...hummm.

@datashuttle That seems high. Are there no choices on shipping method? Try searching for a US dealer.

@datashuttle I just checked, and it is $72 by UPS with no other choice, PLUS UPS will fast talk you into more charges for any duty plus their fees etc. I HATE UPS, it's either Amazon or USPS.

I would ask them if they have a US distributor/retailer.

@zander I'll inquire about a US distributor. If I can find that unit, it may be the answer as long as it's legit, but that kind of shipping cost for a little box is not workable.

@datashuttle And there is still the chance it won't work. I would look for some ESP32 code that can communicate with your Bluetooth devices. THAT MAY BE HARDER THAN YOU THINK. The easy part is just sending any data out on WiFi and vice versa.
