Yea, I control these robots using a PS3 controller. The Bluetooth on the ESP32 is so convenient.

Your hexapod looks really cool. I had a student build a similar bot and she loved it.

She built the kit for this guy, but it seemed pretty expensive:

I would have thought in the professional sphere you would have communication with other technology teachers.

You would think right... Unfortunately the state of education where I live is pretty disappointing. Robotics is basically non-existent in our system. Technology ends up being a large umbrella term and most schools focus on things like animation, graphic design, maybe some coding...

I actually spend most my time trying to teach students just to make decent PowerPoints and save files correctly.

They are great at pressing icons on their phones but they have no idea how anything actually works.

Learning Robotics has been a bit isolating so I have joined this forum to connect with like minded people, and to ask for help on my current project.

Welcome to the forum Devin.

As a self taught amateur in basic electronics and programming I have always been isolated apart from books on programming, electronics and robotics. I would have thought in the professional sphere you would have communication with other technology teachers. I see robots is a favourite for young people learning STEM subjects.

Will wait with interest in learning about your projects and servo issues in another of the dronebot forums probably the Robot Projects forum.

It’s great to see another Roboticist joining the forum.  Are your plans to remotely control your two projects?  The quadruped robot seems really popular these days.  I see a ton of them on the Reddit r/robotics site.  I built a remote control hexapod from a kit once and the kids at my wife’s Elementary School loved it.

My name is Devin and I'm living in Alberta, Canada.

I am a technology teacher at a high school and as soon as I had access to a 3D printer my ambition for learning robotics began.

I have learned a ton from Bill's YouTube channel, along with ChatGPT being the best teacher I've ever had. I have no formal training at all but have been learning as I go. Learning Robotics has been a bit isolating so I have joined this forum to connect with like minded people, and to ask for help on my current project.

 

My first robot build is called: Datra MKII - Puma Variant

I am working to replicate a WW2 Armored vehicle called Skfzd 234 - Puma

This build took tons of work and learning and is working great!

The mobility platform is complete but I have yet to make the turret system and outer shell.

But I've taken a break from the Puma to make a quadruped.

 

My second build is called: Alpha Dog V2

I just installed the electronics system and I'm in the process of writing the software.

I'm hoping to ask for help on this build in a later post as I am having issues with the servos and I'm stumped.

 

Anyways, hope to get to know some of you.
