Hello

my name is Steve I'm very close to 50 years old I live in Georgia usa. I have been a mechanic for over 30 years diesel up to 7 years ago. Now I work on cranes and bucket trucks or anything in the utility industry. I have always been a electrical troubleshooter at work. About a year ago I wanting to learn more about electronics. You know build something not just fix it that;s when I found Bill and the workshop on youtube.

My first project was a power supply that I made from an old computer I mounted the circuit boards in a plastic ammo can and made it variable with a boost converter all with Bill’s help (Bill just doesn't know he helped) my second project was the same as the first I like how it turned out. so I made one for home and work. The one at work gets used daily either by me or by the other 8 mechanics in my shop. now for my third project that I have been working on for 2 months, an rc controlled 46 inch riding lawn mower, I know a little ambitious for a newbie. I was given a broken crane remote and receiver from work and was able to fix it. I was able to use the remote for the lawnmower project everything worked,

the only problem I had was the receiver was 12v and gave out 12v signals, not real exciting at all, after running it around the yard a couple times I decided I was going to scrap the crane remote idea and go with arduino, I going to learn more about programing and sensors so in a year or two I can make this self driving.

I joined this forum to personally thank Bill he has encouraged me to do more, a thumbs up on youtube is sometimes not enough, I know this forum is filled with electrical engineers and people that have been doing electronics and programing for a long time so I know I'm way out of my league but I have a strong desirer to learn. Thanks for letting me ramble

Welcome to the Forum Steve!

Indeed, Bill has the knack for inspiring people to do more with their lives than just surfing the web, or being a couch potato...lol

Yes, it's true that there are many on here that are more sophisticated in the art of electronics and programming, but there are many, like you, and me, that just want to learn..As it turns out, we're all on here to share our knowledge, and to learn..never met anyone who knows everything, lol

At any rate, you came to the right place, have fun, and above all be safe!

Kind regards,

LouisR

Welcome! You'll find this a great community - supportive, and lots of smart folks to offer ideas and answer questions. There is no league. Grab a beverage, hang out, kick stuff around, and have fun. 🙂

I edit my posts to fix typos, correct grammar, or improve clarity. On-screen keyboards are evil.
