Quick hello from me.
Thanks to Bill for setting up my login, and I hope to have found a friendly bunch of like-minded techies who don't mind helping out the new guys. I hate those forums where sarcasm is king! I'm going to need a lot of basic help I expect, but I'm happy to give back, because I think that's the way it should work.
I've run big tech forums myself, so I know what it's like.
So, I've never soldered anything tiny, never soldered much at all in fact. Never used Arduino. Never used the IDE. Never programmed a micro-controller, never written a line of C, C++, Python, Arduino sketch, Java, PHP, VB, VC++ or any of that stuff. Never worked with electronics.
I do have some redeeming factors though! I can do a bit of engineering, I can wield a spanner pretty good, and I've had a few decades of programming the big blue water-cooled computers. I'm a keen fully licensed radio amateur, I'm a data nutcase and I don't give up easy. On anything!
I'm working on a long-term secure radio project which is currently based on LoRaWAN, but it may move platforms if something more suitable becomes apparent to me.
Oh, it wasn't so quick after all!
Sid
Hello Sid, As a low time member myself let me say welcome aboard. What I have found from Bill on down the members have been most generous with their time and knowledge to help out. If I may I would also suggest another site toptechboys.com as they really complement each other. The knowledge between Bill and Paul at toptechboys are par none, they set the bar for teaching abilities and experience. Without them I would still be looking at a bunch of electronic parts wondering why I keep letting the smoke out.
Arlo
Hey, thanks for the welcome Arlo. I've heard of TTB, so I'll check them out properly. I wish I'd got involved in this world sooner - there's so much to learn and fun to be had!
Welcome aboard Sid. Glad you joined us. There are a number of Hams onboard here as well. I myself have the call sign N4TTY. Ask away, you'll find plenty willing to help with just about any question.
